I'm afraid that I was not able to recreate an enjoyable experience with Dubstep at all although I should point out that this is just to my ears and it's probable that some people might like it this way. I have heard that some people like a bass shy headphone for bass heavy music and visa versa. Alas I am not like that, I like the Denon D7000 for Dubstep to absolutely max out the impact.

I enjoyed reading your review as this is a model on which I am contemplating pulling the trigger (I listen to a wide variety of music). Re: Butch Clancy, by tweaking your amplification/EQ settings, were you ever able to recreate an appreciable dubstep experience with these cans? Or are you suggesting that this model really is not ideally suited for particular genres of music? (e.g., dubstep, G-funk, etc.)
