Hi Quadpatch,
I enjoyed reading your review as this is a model on which I am contemplating pulling the trigger (I listen to a wide variety of music). Re: Butch Clancy, by tweaking your amplification/EQ settings, were you ever able to recreate an appreciable dubstep experience with these cans? Or are you suggesting that this model really is not ideally suited for particular genres of music? (e.g., dubstep, G-funk, etc.)

Hi Wilky61,
Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the review :). I'm afraid that I was not able to recreate an enjoyable experience with Dubstep at all although I should point out that this is just to my ears and it's probable that some people might like it this way. I have heard that some people like a bass shy headphone for bass heavy music and visa versa. Alas I am not like that, I like the Denon D7000 for Dubstep to absolutely max out the impact.

Quadpatch,
Ah, gotcha. These Q701s are actually going to be my first serious headphone. I decided to pull the trigger as they have the neutral/immersive soundscape I'm currently seeking, but I've been suspicious all day that I'm eventually going to go back and purchase either the Denon D5000/D7000 (do you have a preference?) not really as an upgrade but rather as an alternative to the sound of the Q701...

Do you wear glasses? I've found the slight creaking sound during movement is caused by my glasses rubbing against the headphone. Sounds hard to believe...with no glasses, it's gone.

wilky61: If the neutrality and sound stage are your biggest requirements then I would say the Q701s are a great choice. I don't know quite how the Denon D5000 will compare but the D7000 for me is a better headphone. The bass power is infinitely better that the Q701 but the detail is slightly less transparent, the sound stage of course not as big, they are generally a warmer sound but nothing is really that far behind the Q701, the benefits of the D7000 are much larger improvements (like bass and treble, comfort, isolation, forgiving of source) and for me it's generally more enjoyable but then they are twice the price!
tdockweiler: Oh wow you are totally right, it's the glasses! I am going to have to reword that for the review :p. It's something that other that other large headphones don't do so that threw me. I'm still getting a bit of noise from the elastic headband but it's much less and now I can't see :p.
