Haven't seen anyone reference E-Mantra on Head-fi before. Nice stuff, good track choice as well to show off some power. He has some of the cleanest sound in the genre.

At the risk of hearing something I don't want to. How does the Legato hold up to the IMR BC 2023? Purchased it off your review a few days again, different price bracket I know but similar concept.

I don’t normally compare those two (in my review) as they are given to me from two separate entities, thus a conflict of interest. But since you must know, there is also a huge price difference so I guess they are not truly competitive?

They do share a love for deep bass, but they are almost opposite in that the IMR BC 2023 has the full display of bass realization. Where the 7Hz works its magic side-stepping the deep detail in contrast to maybe what the Sony XBA-Z5 is? So the BC 2023 and XBA-Z5 are the same (in bass) the Legato not. Hope that answers your question, you have nothing to worry about! Still as far as we being consumers/hobbyists go, they are in a strange way complementary, where really they are actually very different once you truly get down to brass tacks? Though it is amazing both are bass focused and exist with 2 DDs. But one is open back and one is not, also one is way more money and you get quality for those dollars. The BC 2023 holds refinements across the board!

That is a compilation album, but E-Mantra has his own music and it’s fabulous! All of it, but his early stuff is more vivid, where he changed around 2018 maybe? His style was (before) more intense maybe?

The 7Hz Legato gets a person in the door, meaning it and the BC 2023 offer the same general mood between the two. Except the bass technicalities are way better with the BC 2023, yet for the price the Legato is, it’s a deal. Also there is a magic with Legato playback that the BC 2023 doesn’t do. The Legato is limiting its info, and only supplying what’s needed at a minimum, and somehow that’s a value here, not as real as the BC 2023, but cool none the less.

As an old man, that is all of our fates, old age, sickness and death. I obviously grew up in the Bass era. Big thumping, Solar Plexus wrenching speakers. Sound was physical. In this age of bookshelf speakers my heart goes out to you all. Earth bass, feminine, powerful, Gaia nurtured me. Even though a pure simulation I do admire the Legato attempt to recreate some simulation of the real bass experience. Love this articulate review that uses adjectives and language rather than graphs. There has been too much left brain measurements introduced to the IEM world recently. Graph, graph, graph. Did you know that once seen, a graph changes perception of the music? Stay free and have enjoyment.

@dharmasteve not to derail the comment of this great reviews but I agree. If we are chasing the perfect measurement why even purchase more than 1 (the preferred fr) iem. I don't even look at them when posted, more interested in how it makes people feel and the enthusiasm through energy it produces in a person.

Also I see now the track was Jaraluca, another production beast. I always use Goa to test an iem just to see how it handles all the layers. Looking forward to it's arrival. I've come to realise I prefer mids out of a dynamic driver vs Planar and BA.

Ha, I tried to go back before IEM graphs to give everyone a break. As obviously they can be a crutch as well as obscure perception of reality, even though they are a tool, that does add to the tool-box!

Great review! I recently got the Timeless OG and effing love it! Dioko, on the other hand, I like the case more than the IEM.
