Paris in July
Any Head-Fiers know a decent hotel in/near the Latin Quarter in Paris for early July? I used to live/ work in Paris but haven't been there for several years and now my 11 yr old daughter wants to go. We'll be in Switzerland in July and I've booked travel to Paris for 3 days/2 nights (7/5-7/7)...- cpw

Kind of Blue (OG vinyl release)
So I just got gifted 4 big boxes of vinyl from my uncle who was moving. It's all jazz and classical. Some new 45rpm LPs and lots of old vinyl from the 50s-60s-70s. One of the records is an original release of Kind of Blue. This has the misprints on the album cover (Adderley spelled "Adderly"... -
Vinyl Score!
My uncle just sold his house and is moving and has decided to get out of the vinyl business so I just scored 4 boxes of his records and a (second) VPI record cleaning machine. It's all jazz and classical. Unfortunately his Scout TT went to the new owner of the house along with an incredible...- cpw

Mac OS upgrade question
Hmm. So opinions vary. Sounds like trying is all I can do. My MacBook Pro is not that new; it's the 1st gen Core Duo. It's still under Apple Care so it may not be worth the risk if something gets weird. Just too broke to buy the new OS and iLife at the moment. Damn but Macs are 'spensive...- cpw

Mac OS upgrade question
So I just bought my daughter the new Macbook ($999 white; she's 7) and she's in heaven. It came w/ Leopard (OSX 10.5) and related install DVDs. I wanna upgrade the OS on my MacBook Pro to Leopard. Will it work? Mac "Geniuses" at the local Apple store say "Yes, but I didn't tell you that." and...- cpw

Nikon Film SLR suggestions
F100 or N80 if you plan to buy autofocus lenses at some point; FE2 or F3hp if manual lenses. I'd look at the possibility of scoring a Mamiya TLR and a couple of lenses if you really plan to do a lot of work with film. No substitute for bigger negatives if you want to do larger enlargements.- cpw

HT receiver: fix it or replace
Love the sound quality of my Marantz SR19ex but it doesn't have HDMI switching and for some reason it wont power up. No repair facility nearby and this sucka is HEAVY! By the time I ship it and pay for repair I might be able to have most of the $$ for a new one. Any recommendations? Music SQ...- cpw

After a Home Amp for HD650s Better than my Hornet
I've had my RSA HR-2 for years now and still think it has great synergy with the HD650. Haven't even been tempted to upgrade that part of my living room rig. Talk to Ray. =CPW=- cpw

Should I stop waiting for a used 588 and go for the GO8?
Had the chance (thx Todd) to audition the G08 next to my two 508s some time ago. Great source no doubt. If I were to buy a new source today, G08 no doubt. But I'm a Meridian guy. I say go for it. CPW- cpw

Doh!
Awesome choice. We named our Golden Retriever Phoebe and still love the name 11 yrs later to the point that if we had a girl tomorrow, we'd probably name her Phoebe. I told my wife that it's the "Indiana Jones" syndrome: the ignominy of being named after the dog! CPW- cpw

Which Singlepower Amp for $6K??
1) Meridian G08 2) HD650 balanced 3) RSA B-52 Of course you'll have to bump your budget! Seriously though, source first. A great amp can be had lots cheaper than what you're looking to spend but I'd get a G08 first then look at an amp. My $.02. CPW- cpw

The Raptor power supply....
Hi Ray. If I recall correctly, part of the reason that the Raptor's PS ran hotter than most was that the design also allowed for conversion to european voltage. Does the new, cooler power supply also allow for this or is it US voltage only? Thanks in advance and Hello to Charles and Grace...- cpw
