I am looking for the same setup with my DT770/80 also in the same budget. I am leaning towards a Travagan White/Green or Maybe a Fubar III. I am looking for an All-In-One AMP/USB DAC combo from the PC>DAC/AMP>headphones

The DT770/80 has gobs of bass but they don't sound that great unless you amp them. The Senn 555 are great headphones and are super comfortable but they lack bass. They were my 1st set of decent phones and I still enjoy them but this site has shown me the light and now I am hemorrhaging money all...

I own both the Senn555 and Denon 1001 and the Denon has much better bass than the 555. I do think the 555 is more comfortable with the velour pads and seems to be built better. The Denon phones are lightweight and have a cheaper plasticy feel to them but they have replaced my Senn 555's.

I think these must be the red headed stepchild of Head-Fi forum members. I just love my DT770's and for $50, I am willing to give the DT440 a try. From what I read, they sound similar to Senn 595's so how can you lose? $50 shipped for a quality german made phones? I just placed an order.

I am in the same boat. Looking for an all in one Amp/USB DAC unit. I am using a Go-Vibe Petite with DAC but want something with more juice!

I own both and really enjoy the Denon 1001's much more. To my ear the bass hits harder with the Denons.

It also depends on the type of metal since all metal is not the same. I enjoy a faster paced power metal and love to hear those double bass drums thumping. The DT770/80 does a great job for me.

I hope you are getting an AMP because I thought my DT770/80's are pretty weak unamped. They sound great with Rock,metal etc but I didnt think they sounded that great with acoustic music. I prefer Sennheisers for that.

Reading this forum too long created a bad case of upgraditis for me and I am now looking to upgrade my little Go-Vibe petite DAC/Amp for a desktop amp and really enjoy the USB DAC but want to try a Tube amp. Are there any units in the $200-$300 range? I would like to buy a 1 unit does all type...

Wow old thread ressurected from the dead huh? I am very happy with my Go-Vibe petite DAC when connected through my PC via USB but it sounds wimpy just running a mp3 player. The DAC is awesome!

What kind of music does your friend listen to? The grados are appreciated more with Rock music.

I listened to these at Best Buy and these are crap for what you are paying. Yucky bloated bass. These sound like $60-$70 headphones. Don't waste you money.

The Denon 1001's sound fine with an IPOD. They do sound better with an amp. The 1001's are very light weight and make nice travel phones. I really enjoy them.

I am a fan of Power Metal/Symphonic/Epic etc.The DT770 does need an amp but even a small CMOY will do. The DT770/80 that I am using sounds great with metal. I haven't heard the 271's but I am very happy with the DT770

I didnt see much improvement when I amp'd my 555's. Unless you really love your 555's, I wouldnt spend too much money on an amp when you can use the money to upgrade your headphones. I bought a set of Beyer DT770/80 + Amp and now the 555's reside in my closet. A CMOY or inexpensive amp will help...

I just got a pair of DT770/80's last week and I have a BSG cmoy and it had no problem driving the Beyers. I did have to turn the volume higher than I use on my Denon 1001 but the BSG has no problem driving the headphones. I have a Go-Vibe petite with DAC and the DT770 sound much better on this...

I really enjoy my BSG. You can't beat it for $50. It is taking second fiddle to my Go-Vibe Petite with DAC.

Thanks for the post. I am a relative noob debating the purchase of a LOD or just sticking with my mini-mini cables which are nice but if the sound if a big difference, i am willing to try an LOD. Now I need to find a quality LOD around $30!

The Senn 555's are really comfortable but they leak sound so people around you can hear what you are listening to. The 280's are closed so there is no sound leakage and the bass is alot better on the 280's. Both are great headphones. and I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.
