Intel Quad core launches on November 2nd
Just remember the words reverse hyperthreading. It is already in core 2 duo's I hope they turn it on for the quads. Of course my machine is not due for upgrades for a couple of years. I remain unimpressed with this AMD chip (4400+ X2) I have, it just does not multitask properly. It sure is...- Quad

Got myself a new PC
I don't mind Maxtor myself they have replaced drives (4 or 5) for me because I thought they were too noisy. Also they make better and worse drives but people do not pay a bit more for added reliability. I have 18 active drives right now on my main system and many are maxtors. Some will likely...- Quad

Laptop owners or informed people
I have 3 laptops in the house right now an older Dell 8200 (dells are not as bad as people tell you they are worse) way too big and heavy but I needed a desktop replacement for a year. A sony VIAO the one with the 13.3 inch screen, all in all a decent machine but not spectacular. It has been...- Quad

External Harddrive FAT32 to NTFS help
I have the 5400 rpm version of that drive. NTFS will prevent problems writing many files as the root directory will fill up in FAT (only so many root entries permitted). You will not be able to format in FAT32 in windows XP anyway (a Windows 98 machine can do it, or a Mac). Xp will not allow a...- Quad

Can you return gift cards?
I prefer the gift card usable at most ANY retailer in the world. Those are mostly redeemed but some is lost on the street. Why buy someone a gift card unless they have a particular problem like spending all their cash on booze or something? But hey that just something I don't get.- Quad

This time it's WAR against negligent cat owners in my Condo Complex!
There usually are strata bylaws against letting animals run free (don't know if you call them Stratas stateside). So they must respond to a written complaint. You may need evidence (photo of said cat running free). If not then live traps and a drop off at the humane society (this cat was on my...- Quad

Windows XP Home Service Pack 1a, can I undo it?
As I remember SP 1 gave you the option of backing up the files so you could later roll back. I don't remember trying the roll back to see if it worked but system restor would not. I don't much care for many computer games but I did play Deus Ex and the Riddick game. I liked them. That is my...- Quad

Harriet the 175 year old Tortoise
The link would not work but I think it was the Harriet I met. I was standing there at the Austrailian Zoo having just ran into Steve Irwin in the bathroom (I was wondering why there were so many women hanging outside the door) and this young lady started asking the kids what was special about...- Quad

any vegan/vegetarians here?
I am vegetarian but I figure if you want turkey eat turkey. Just my feeling on things that look like meat. That said my kids sort of like tofu dogs and some of their friends like them better than meat dogs. I have know people who found eating those meat substitution things made it too hard to...- Quad

Digilux 2
That does look like a close to Leica M sub. I will have to check one out. It does look like they may be very rare beasts but I haven't started the physical hunt yet. QC issues do not sound promising though. I get the impression from some reading I have done that the Epson shutter is a bit...- Quad

Digilux 2
Ok another photography question. I love my Leica M and want to get a digital camera so I am considering a Digilux 2 (it lens would handle most anything I am likely to want to photograph) anyone with experience with it? What won't I like compared to the M. I expect the viewfinder will be a bit of...- Quad

convince me to buy grado.
You know you want to so just go ahead. Get the head fi specials. Go ahead you can always return or sell them but you won't. I don't know what they have that others don't but they are good, go loud without frying and are light and comfortable. They will not stay on for jogging but I walk with...- Quad

My cat ate my SR325's!
OK this is going to sound worse than I mean it but why didn't you send the grados to be fixed by amazon.com or conversely why didn't you get a good deal on some new phones from the dealer you had trouble finding in your "stupid area"? I like to get service locally and I like to buy locally if...- Quad

PC Fan Noise
Check out the Antec P180 case. I just rebuilt my machine in one from a Lian Li PC70. The PC 70 is much more roomy and easy to work in but all the quiet features I put into it over the years are already in the P180 and then some. Fan on north bridge = bad for me, also I put a zalman passive...- Quad

Hey, AKG K-1000 owners! Have you tried...
I have used the sub type of set up. Another thing besides the better low frequency response is the mid range on the phones sound better since the main amp is not driving the lows. This may only be an issue with the Quad II's I use but I would think separating the lows from the main frequencies...- Quad
