General 'Next Step' Advice
Thanks for all the advice. I'm actually quite happy with the sound quality for the time being, or at least within the spending limits I've set. If anyone knows about what kind of source would suit a NAS or direct USB plugin with possiblity of NAS upgrade, that would be best I think.- Gorgias

General 'Next Step' Advice
Thanks for the quick reply. @cossix It's not that I have a problem with the audio quality from the laptop. It's a digital source. It's just inconvenient plugging in my music drive, using up memory etc. on my machine. I'd rather have a stand alone 'system', if that makes sense. 1. My FLAC...- Gorgias

General 'Next Step' Advice
Hi all At the moment I have some Sennheiser HD650s, and old pair of AKG501s, a Cambrdige Audio DacMagic Plus. When I listen, I plug the DAC into my laptop, my external harddrive into my laptop, open JRiver media centre and begin my listening session. I've appropriated the cash and would like to...- Gorgias

Seeking some basic advice/info
@ Me x3 Thanks for answering all of my questions. I'm now very tempted by the Fii0 X3 II. Would using a laptop with an entry level Schiit stack (Magni 2/Modi 2) improve sound quality significantly? I've been reading steadily for the last few days, but there's a bewildering array of components...- Gorgias

Seeking some basic advice/info
OK, thanks Me x3, I was expecting some combination of streamer—DAC—amp, but all in one might work too. If I did want to buy a separate DAC/amp stack, say a cheap Shiit, some other combination in the 200-400 range, what, apart from a computer, can stream the data to the DAC? Initially I thought...- Gorgias

Seeking some basic advice/info
Hello all I've been away from the world of head phones and audiophile equipment for a long time so please forgive my ignorance and laziness. My problem, in essence, is very simple. I have an external drive full of FLAC audio and a pair of AKG K501s. I'd like a stand alone source (not my...- Gorgias

Out DAC Marantz CD46
Am finally considering switching to computer setup. Have been using Marantz CD46 with AKG 501s for years. How much would I have to spend to match what I have now? Am using a new Macbook Pro; haven't really tested its DAC...I suppose it's not exactly bad, but. Have I completely...- Gorgias

PX 100, AKG 501s, and...
I'm in Europe where Grados are overpriced, so I'll probably pass on them. I suppose the AKG K414P etc. don't sell much in the US. Anyone tried them? Search doesn't turn up much. They are beautfully designed headphones, so I'm tempted. I could of course buy another pair of PX100s, which I do...- Gorgias

PX 100, AKG 501s, and...
While I haven't tried them myself, many disparage the PX 200s. Do you know anything about the AKG 412, 414 etc. I suppose the Porta Pro must also be considered. I see quite a few of them around. Don't know if this is a good sign. There are some Koss clip-ons too. KSC 75s. They've been...- Gorgias

PX 100, AKG 501s, and...
Hi all. Recently the cable of my PX 100s frayed near the plug-join silencing one of the channels. In typical 'the ashtrays are full it's time for a new car' reasoning I decided to buy another pair of portables. I like my AKG 501s, and the the PXs were well crafted for their purpose...- Gorgias
