New ATH-M50
The ATH-M50 are much easier to drive then the Shure SRH440, and everyone seems to agree that the M50 doesn't really benefit much from an amp unless you are spending big bucks, and even then not much unless you spend even more to upgrade your source as well. In other words, the ATH-M50 are just...- Cyberbeing

Shure SRH440 Impression
The main purpose of my previous post was just to clarify my post here with some song examples that influenced my opinion as well as what I was using as my source (Audigy 4). I seem to remember reading ~8 years ago that the Soundblaster Audigy 1 cards did have an emphasis in the mids and highs. I...- Cyberbeing

Burn-in question
Everything I've read seems to point to Pink Noise as the best thing (safest bet?) to use for burning in headphones since there appears to be a myth that it's possible to burn-in your headphones unevenly if you don't play an even distribution of all the different frequencies. Some appear to...- Cyberbeing

Shure Srh440 vs AT Athm50

Shure Srh440 vs AT Athm50
In terms of bass, after hearing both the ATH-M50 stays more true to how the recording is mixed, while the SRH440 de-empathizes the bass considerably as can be easily visualized from the FR graphs. I'm 23 y/o and I had to raise the volume to the point where the mids and treble were...- Cyberbeing

Comfort of the ATH-M50s?
As I mentioned in your other thread, the ATH-M50s are considerably more comfortable then the pads on the SHR440 for someone like me who has ears which stick out ~1.0". The SHR440 have 0.5" pads (clearance to the driver). The ATH-M50s have 0.75" pads (clearance to the driver). That extra...- Cyberbeing

AAAHH, the PAIN!!
For me, the main area of pain is on the hard cartilage ridge which I've colored in red on the attached image. Pain on other portions of my ear are somewhat secondary.- Cyberbeing

AAAHH, the PAIN!!
I had the same problem as Marximum with the SHR440 earpads. I bought some ATH-M50s as a replacement and while not as comfortable as the plush velour pads on my HD590, there is a night and day difference in comfort (while still not perfect, so I'm ordering some DT250 velour pads) when compared to...- Cyberbeing

SRH840 impression
Would anybody be willing to take out a ruler and measure the earpads on the SHR840? It would be nice to know if they really are thicker then the SHR440 pads or if the difference is comfort only. Only that note, has anybody found any thick pads (velour?) which are compatible with the SHR840?- Cyberbeing

Need advice: DJ Headphones >$110
It's a bit too late now, but you could have just bought them from the PROAUDIOMART guy (brianf) who is a Authorized Audio Technica dealer in order to ease your concerns. Even though his BuyItNow price is $104.95 he also has allows BestOffer and states on his listing he will match or beat any...- Cyberbeing

Dislike Shure 440, Need Closed Headphone Advice (<$150 ATH-M50, HD 25-1 II, or used DT770?)
I was about to bite the bullet on the HD 25-1 II and go ahead and either buy some refubs for $140 or new on ebay for $160, but then when doing some final research I discovered that it only has a 1.5m cable. I did some measurements and I need no less then a 2m cable... Buying a longer...- Cyberbeing

Dislike Shure 440, Need Closed Headphone Advice (<$150 ATH-M50, HD 25-1 II, or used DT770?)
For those who asked, I didn't break-in the SHR440. Even if breaking them in improved on the issues I was having, the comfort of the 0.5" circumaural earpads alone was bad enough for me to return them. __________ The Sennheiser HD 25-1 II do look interesting. @K_19 I assume your warning...- Cyberbeing

Dislike Shure 440, Need Closed Headphone Advice (<$150 ATH-M50, HD 25-1 II, or used DT770?)
If possible I would first like help in ruling out any of the headphones I listed which do not have at least 1 inch thick earpads. Also if people who own one of the particular headphones in question could say a little about how it does for my third and forth requirements in particular that...- Cyberbeing

Dislike Shure 440, Need Closed Headphone Advice (<$150 ATH-M50, HD 25-1 II, or used DT770?)
I currently own the Sennheiser HD590 which I bought new ~4 years ago for $100 shipped. I have generally been happy with them. If I had to name a couple gripes, I would say that they are a bit too dark and they cause me fatigue. __________ __________ After reading good things about the Shure...- Cyberbeing

Sennheiser HD650 Bass Rattle. Help!
I registered just to say thank you for the suggestion about a hair on the driver and trying to blow it off. I had a very similar bass rattle (which annoyed me to no end) that was happening on certain low frequencies on my Sennheiser HD590, like the one described in this thread. A couple years...- Cyberbeing
