I think when you get enough headphones, a stand is really neat, it keeps them in one place.. I used to have 6 cans just laying on top of my desk (with dust-protection mind you) but its so much nicer to have them all on a stand.

If you are able to find an old Roksan DAC, they can usually be had for around 3-400 usd. They have a very natural sound, especially considering they are bitstream. The ones from 91-92 are legendary. I also had my hands on a Pink Triangle.. google them.. thats legendary stuff.. cool wood finish...

That is a true about the older velour-pads.. sometimes they can look a bit hmm mangy. The DT990 pads will fit on the DT531. I believe Beyers ref. number for the pads is; 926679

Personally I prefer the stock pads to putting the DT990-pads on.. Depending on how flat the pads are you could consider reconditioning them?

Try Audiogons actions.. you can pick up great quality interconnects (new) from several makers from about 50-100 USD.
