Just bought the new UE 350 (shipping was almost as expensive as the earphones...) and I'm pretty impressed! Familiar UE sound signature with strong bass (no need for the crappy iPhone equalizer anymore!). The sound is not as clear as the 5EBs, but this is definitively my new choice for "cheap"...

Thanks for your responses! The IE8 seem to get very mixed reviews here, several have stated to clearly prefer the 5EBs over them, so it's a bit risky to buy them blindly (at that price). The VBs seem very interesting, but it looks like they are not available through a local retailer and...

I tested it on several different power sources to rule out interference on the power line (or at least interference I could do something about). Since there seems to be no one on this forum with the same setup and no problems it's just too costly to return it to china

I really like the UE Metro.Fi 2 for electronica, but depending on your taste they might need some boost in the bass segment. This shouldn't be a problem with an iPod ("more bass" works wonders with these!).

The best idea is to keep a lossless copy and encode it as soon as you want to put it on a mobile device where storage is an issue. However, most people won't be able to tell the difference between a properly encoded mp3 on the hardware you are going to use. If you don't plan to upgrade soon...
