Quote: Greatly appreciate your reply. I've got the igrado's, and they are a bit warm and have a modest treble boost (compared to darker 'phones like portapros). However, I am deeply disappointed with the build quality and comfort; the igrado's are noticeably below average in both areas.- newphones

Stick a fork in me, I'm done. Dr. says "No more Headphones".... : (
Quote: Yes, exactly. There was a bizarre thread on head fi where a poster stated that ANY use of headphones damaged a person's hearing. You get weird extremes of ignorance: some claiming you can listen at any volume and use any kind of headphones without risk to your hearing, others...- newphones

Best Headphones for Rock, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Alternative Rock, Metal, Heavy Metal, Glam Metal, and Vocals.
Quote: The goal is not to frighten anyone. Our goal here is to encourage listeners to use common sense when using any technology. Tech can be wonderful if used properly, or detrimental if not. How many teens and young adults listen to metal at a low volume? That's right, none...- newphones

Can you guys help me find headphones for my almost deaf Grandmother?
That's unfortunate. My guess is that she will likely require hearing aids to use headphones, an extra expense in addition to the cost of consultations as well as the headphones. Using headphones without hearing aids in her case is only inviting further damage to her hearing. Get...- newphones

Your Thoughts on a few Portable under-$70 Headphones
Quote: The ksc75's are brilliant. They excel in every area but unfortunately the highs are a bit too hot for me. The portapros are outstanding, if you like a dark and bassy pair of headphones. Superb for rock and hiphop, but amazing also for movie listening and game playing. Very...- newphones

A reasonably priced alt headphones
While I can understand the practical concerns which drive people to closed headphones and IEM's, you simply must have an open design to get the best sound quality. The koss portapro and sportapro are emblematic of great sounding headphones at a fantastic price: yes, they have an open...- newphones

Best Headphones for Rock, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Alternative Rock, Metal, Heavy Metal, Glam Metal, and Vocals.
Grado's have a reputation for being very fatiguing. Also, given your interests, you probably listen at a high volume. High volume + treble boost = disaster. You've been warned.- newphones

What Types / Models Of Headphones Are Best For Different Kinds Of Music? Please Help????
The ksc75's are absolutely brilliant headphones. Unfortunately, I found the high frequencies too steely and harsh. This was exacerbated by the fact that I turned up the volume since the detail was so phenomenal. Check out the portapro appreciation thread: you may be able to attach...- newphones

I wish you all the best. Your intuition is serving you well, as you feel an indefinite break from headphones is in your best interest. If you ever do return to using headphones, STAY AWAY from headphones with excessive treble boost, limit your listening sessions to maybe an hour per day...- newphones

Best Closed Headphones under $150 (preferably on amazon.com)

What we know for certain is that headphones do not allow high frequencies to decay as they normally would in an open air setting. Those high frequencies are being pumped directly into your ear canal. Which is why it is all the more important to refrain from using headphones with a treble...- newphones

The best headphones for the smallest price... :)
Quote: I am tempted to buy the CAL's. Unfortunately, I had a rather rude re-introduction to closed headphones with the koss dj100's. A very hollow, thin sound, despite mad, raving reviews here on head fi. It makes me really reluctant to try closed headphones again.- newphones

Tinnitus and noise induced hearing loss are now at epidemic level, and headphone listening is at the leading edge of this crisis. It's a little too late for some of us, but some simple precautions will help: -avoid headphones with a severe treble boost -limit your listening...- newphones

The best headphones for the smallest price... :)
Quote: You don't need to spend anywhere near $100 to get great sounding headphones. First of all, do NOT get the dj100's! Those are massively over-rated. I have demo'ed them extensively for nearly two weeks and I like them less every time I listen to them. Rolled off treble...- newphones

As a treble sensitive listener, who just happens to love hearing details in music, I once again, cautiously inquire about grado's. I read this review: http://www.headfonia.com/the-new-grado-sound-grado-ps500/ ....which claims that the grado ps500 represents a departure from...- newphones
