If you didn't mind spending a little extra you could go with the Ety ER-4P, otherwise I would stick to what you had or maybe even wait on the Apple IEMs when they are released in October. Also, stick with an iPod, maybe one of the new Nanos.

Highly doubtful. You could however buy a nice headphone amp/DAC combo and use the headphone output on the WinMob device to the input of the amp.

I paid more attention when plugging them in this morning but did not have the amp "on". Even though it appeared to be plugging in all the way it still felt like it could have been pushed in a little more. I'll try an adapter when I get home to see.
