JVC HA-FX40 | Believe the hype!

Thought I would update this thread.  I've had the HA-FX40s now for a few weeks and I have to say, the midrange is starting to get better.  It's still a dark signature but it's very detailed for such a low priced can.  I've been bicycle commuting with these and they sound great.  I can hear...

JVC HA-FX40 | Believe the hype!

I thought I would revive this thread since I just got a pair of the HA-FX40s.  About a year ago my Er-6is broke where the foamies attach to the earbud rendering one of the buds unusable.  As I'm going to be having a week long stay in an epilepsy monitoring unit I thought I would pick up a new...

What Headphones Are You Using Right Now?

I just got a pair of SR-60s so I'm trying them out.

    Cheapest headphone you really love

I'd have to go with the Koss KSC-75.

What headphones do you have, and what do you still want?

    Have: Beyerdynamic DT770 Sony MDR7506 Koss KSC75 Sennheiser HD280 Had: Koss UR20 Shure E3 Koss KSC35 Want: Grado SR60 Sony MDR-CD3000 Sennheiser HD-580 Etymotic ER4P

Comfortable Clear Headphones for $100 to $150

Sennheiser HD280s are great for gaming. I would also recommend the Sony MDR7506 (or their cheaper cousin, the V6). The 7506s don't seem to have as good a soundstage as the 280s though, which makes a fairly good difference when gaming. Comfort between these cans is a tough one. The 280s really...

Just arrived! Pioneer Monitor 10 (with pictures)

Wow! Nice find! I actually had a pair of these when I was younger. Now if only I could find another pair

    jumbo sized caps

It has to do with the time constant of the realistic model of a capacitor. This realistic model of a capacitor is the model of the parasitic complex impedances which are present in electronic devices. The model for a capacitor looks like this: R_ESR is the equivalent series resistance...

    jumbo sized caps

Typically people remove or replace decoupling capacitors. Also, power supply reservoir capacitors may be increased in value for better ripple rejection.

    jumbo sized caps

Well it depends on the context of the capacitor too. You can't just go around putting large capacitors everywhere. For example, filter capacitors are precisely tuned, and if you change the value of the cap, you change the filter characteristics.

    EMU 0404 output issue

Yeah... I'm going to stick it in a test box and check it out, but I was hoping someone would have some good ideas as to where to check. I will base my efforts off of the mod data that is available, as it lays out the analog stage nicely. I figured that since there are a few cases of this...

    EMU 0404 output issue

I have an EMU 0404 PCI here, and recently one of the channels has stopped working properly. Both channels work fine, but the right channel output level is now much lower than the left channel. I've searched head-fi all over, and done plenty of Googling. I can't find any answers as to what the...

    0404 + linux = yes

I suppose it's worth mentioning that the 1.0.15 Alsa drivers have been finally released. If you're using a decent distro (*cough* arch linux *cough*) you should already have what you need to get up and running. I will test things out and get back later with results

    0404 + linux = yes

I will try the new drivers out tonight and post back as soon as I can.

    0404 + linux = yes

Turns out that I needed to compile the new version of the alsa-libs. Anyway, the module would load, but wouldn't detect the EMU 0404 properly and it would not initialize. I really wish I could get this working. I'm digging through the ALSA bugtracker now

    0404 + linux = yes

I played around with the new drivers, but while I can compile the module okay, I can't get the module to load into the kernel (this is assuming the new module has support for the 0404, even). The error in the kernel log is "snd_emu10k1: Unknown symbol snd_ctl_boolean_mono_info." I was looking...

    0404 + linux = yes

It turns out that the instructions to compile the module are wrong (!). The module name is emu10k1, NOT emu10k1-fpga. If your distro includes Alsa 1.0.14, it already has the EMU 1212m and EMU 1820m drivers. All other PCI/PC-Card based EMU hardware will have support whenever Alsa releases 1.0.15.

    0404 + linux = yes

I did read that, and those cards use the same module (which isn't there).
  21. JeffL

    0404 + linux = yes

This is good news, but the 1.0.14 drivers don't contain the emu10k1-fpga module, even though they say they do. False advertising, anyone?

    DT770 or MS1 and HD 280

Only thing about the Beyers is, they aren't as robust as, say, the HD 280s. My Beyers are sitting on a shelf with a dead driver.
