    AKG K530's anyone?

have any of you guys actually listened to a K530? I have some and they are actually very good. they are the K271 driver with a bass resonator ported earpiece design. they have way excessive bass in the stock configuration. If you tape up the holes they sound near identical to the K271, you...

you can get K271s in uk for about £85 if you google for it the k271s are not that hard to drive, an ipod wont cut it maybe but anything mains powered does fine, they are nothing like as hard to drive as my K500. or you could get some AKG K530s and tape the vents closed and they sound...

    AKG experts - K501, K601, K701

damn just lost a long post when my connection died I just got some K500s (with 701 pads and originals) * better/ more natural than 701 but just as detailed * not hyped, much less fatiguing * harder to drive - benefits from amp more than 701 or 271 * open sound with great soundstage *...

certainly you'll hear the amp yes, but it doesn't change the basic character of the phones, I've listened to the K701s on 4 different amps (D2, ibasso, cmoy, RME) and the differences are less than 10% as big as the difference between the K701 and the K271

my 271s work fine off any amp better than a tiny portable, don't need a fancy amp. my Cowon D2 drives them fine and so do a variety of headphone amps built into pro audio gear. so keep the need for an amp in perspective, an ipod probably wont drive them well, but any mains powered gear like a...

So, did the K501, 601,701 comparison ever happen? what were the results? I'd also really like to know about the differences between the different K240 K242, sextett, K240Mk2, K240DF etc, its all very confusing. has anyone compared K240 of any stripe with K271?

AKG K271 have a very good sound and reasonable isolation. I use them daily for professional recording, i like them for listening to music too. also, I haven't tried them but Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones have a good reputation amongst pro studio musicians

what's the difference between the K240 sextett, DF etc etc? and is the K240 Mk 2 a different beast entirely? much lower impedance, different drivers?

hmm, can anyone compare K240's with the others mentioned here? since they are designed for studio monitoring, would that be more what I'm used to? I had assumed they were inferior to the K271 is this not correct?

I got some 701s, lots of nice detail and soundstage. Completely unrealistic frequency response, way much highs. Treble and bass extreme frequency extension is good, nothing really wrong except that the whole sound is massively biased to the top end. My K271s have less soundstage, much less...

so you are saying: K501: sweet/gracious, nice soundstage K601: full, most bass K701: dry, detailed anyone want to add to or revise that? are all 3 quite similar compared to other brands? ie what is the scale of the differences? I'm coming from a musician/ studio engineer...

bump anyone? I've read a fair bit on this, but its really unclear from the posts. seems like almost every time someone here compares a earlier model to a later one they prefer the earlier one! is this just perversity or what? are AKG really so incompetent that their headphones are getting...

I use K271 closed headphones in the studio, and I love them. I'm curious about the AKG open phones. Can someone outline the differences between the 501, 601 and 701 and ideally compare them to the K271 closed headphones which are my most familar set. I'm also curious what similar but...

Do all canalphones suffer from microphonics and occlusion?

westones have very little sound conduction up the cable which is good (inaccurately but commonly called microphonics), etys have lots, which is bad. However the etys sound better , solution, recable some etys with westone cables. i'll do mine when i get around to it... yes over ear helps, but...

Microphonics - are all IEMs/canalphones this bad?

wear over ear, and clip at the back of your shirt. think it looks silly? all the rock stars wear their IEMs with cable over ear, if a vain and image conscious bunch like that can do it so can you! personally i think its much tidier, and much more of the cable is out of sight. cables vary a...

    Etymotic ER4S/P info please?

hmm, I certainly understand that there are a couple of ways that a higher impedance load can improve the performance of an amp. Just don't see how it will inherently change the response of the phone itself regardless of source. I guess its related to the inductance or capacitance of the...

    Etymotic ER4S/P info please?

so the red/blue parts just pull out? is much force required? that 90 deg cable looks good for wearing over the ear. that article is helpful, but it still doesn't say why reducing the impedance of the phones increases the bass, can anyone explain that in terms of inductance or capacitance...

    Etymotic ER4S/P info please?

Oh, and did the ER4s come with different cables at different times? which is preferred and why? (woot! - 50th post look out for me selling all the other stuff i bought to try out!)

    Etymotic ER4S/P info please?

I'm confused about some details of the ER4S and ER4P I have classic ER4S red & blue and have also ordered the current model ER4S (I play in a duo so we need 2 pairs for live performance) The ER4P is supposed to have more bass than the ER4S, but at the same time people seem to be saying...

Worth Trying Something New: Cowon D2 or Iaudio 7?

I just got my D2 today. I use itunes with apple lossless on the computer and convert to ogg qual 8 for the D2. I agree with chinesekiwi that ogg qual 8 (approx 256k) is a great size/quality compromise. way better than mp3 at any bitrate. Lossless is still better but I haven't tried it on...

    Custom IEMs for musician?

hmm, actually, after reading the thread on whether customs are all they are made out to be, and remembersing how uncomfortable my hard acrylic custom ER15 earplugs are, i'm holding off on the livewires. I also discovered that I can get the ER4s way deeper in my ears using the comply tips...

Is it really the case that Customs = Better?

I have been wondering exactly this myself. I have Westone UM1 which fit great, very comfy, but the sound is only just good enough to use at all, and ER4S, where the sound is great, but they stick miles out of the ear, quite visible if using it for a stage monitor! if i could get a universal...
