Folks: Here is how I understand resolution, word length and frequency. Think of bits as pixels in a camera. HD tracks encodes with more bits and therefore gives you more resolution into your music. Most of the codecs (DAC Chips) from AD or BB can handle the 24 bit wide sample (music bit)...

These are one chip models that do not over sample (via a codec or N Number of codecs). The filtering is done by a proprietary circuit design. They also make a Dice dac that has a USB port.

What you are probably hearing, through high rez phones, is a combination of a not so well designed amp and a not so well designed filter. Its not clipping and turning down your amp won't work - right? The filter is cutting off hard. As it steps through the hard cut off, its uncouth...

It sounds like the DAC is having trouble locking onto the clock signal. Try turning on the DVD player first, then the DAC. Are you using DVD Audio? Make sure the output is set to streaming PCM.

There is always going to be some jitter in the USB paradigm, it cannot be helped. How they (DIY) measured the jitter out of the LILO and determined that it is high - I do not know. One thing to remember, is that the LILO is a DSP. It is one of the few USB outboard DSPs on the market. Ergo...
