I suggest making a log of all of your roasts. This has been very helpful to me (especially in the beginning). It's nice to be able to go back and look at what settings yielded what results. I have a database on my computer that I log all the roast info as well as take pics of the beans before...

It looks like the yellow output wire is attached to the wrong pad. It looks like it is bridged with a bunch of solder, but you might want to move it one pad up (toward the power source) so it is on one of the pads shorted by the M-jumper. Edit: You can use your multimeter to check continuity.

If you've already tried adjusting the bass control, you might make sure that you don't have any sort of EQ on. The second jack you tried (behind the headphone jack) is a line in, so it makes sense that your speakers did not play when plugged in.

I'm not sure how the weather is in Boston, but seems like that could pose a problem.
