    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

Of that I'm totally aware....as the apocryphal story goes. : ) My reference to the piano was more in light banter hence the "lol", but for the layman it.....

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

Not the Dekoni but did try some leather, perforated and non perforated. All pads will contribute to different sound characteristics, so if one does not like the stock signature it's the way to go, as I've a few phones on hand I'm now back with the stock pads to hear them as Beyerdynamic...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

I was thinking more in terms of sheer physicality and labour involved. Yep...pianos in terms of popularity, where they were once the cherished center of home entertainment a century a ago (replaced by the record player) are now a thing of the past, a curiosity, at the end of life and of little...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

Haven't been around much lately but dropping in to see where the OAE1 is currently at I find this comment sobering, thank you! Was having the piano tune the other day, it's an upright Yamaha hand assembled in Japan and looking at used prices, which hover around $3k-$5k, I now find it impossible...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

 Back in the 80s my little Celestion SL6S's did that where one would get that proverbial kick in the chest by emphasizing 60hrz base signal, put my much larger Advents to shame. Sub-base which is more felt than heard was introduced with my 1st Velodyne, no more looking back at subless...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

I may never get to hear the Composer but that is indeed an interesting observation to keep in mind. :sunglasses:

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

Their Amiron Home have been on my head of late. :relieved: I could never settle on the HD650, went through 4 pair (includes the HD6XX), always too intimate for my tastes but living with the HD800S since their inception. So always different strokes for different folks, the OAE1 just may be the...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

Also comes down to what the listener prefers.... In the ear.... ...or at a distance. I'm thinking the majority prefer the former, obviously depending on the recording headphones should do both but IMHO the HD600/650 just by their physical design catered more toward the intimate, and the...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

Question though, will the average headphone listener take the OAE1 as a novelty item or a potential "go to" for headphone listening. For the last few months my headphones have all become monitoring tools and not for musical entertainment and I'm happy to grab what's ever is in reaching distance...

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

With Senns fresh out of the box I've always found the biggest change was in the first couple of hours, like putting on a new pair of shoes. I crank them up and place them in a drawer or under cushions. My HD700s, like the 660S had the biggest change, wrote both off initially but after a few...

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

This is my 1st Beyerdynamic but kman1211apears to have summed it up. Have not heard the other 2 but the Amiron currently comes across like that. The Amiron and K812 IMHO are at polar opposites in tonality but both uniquely satisfying in their own way. Not overly compelled to get the Composer...

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

New satisfying combo, Amiron Home with the Sennheiser HDVD800, up until now I've been using the Bryston BHA1 but recently moved things around. As has been rumoured the Senn amp has been optimized for higher impedance phones, the Beyerdynamic is no exception.

    Neumann NDH 30

The Tascam Model 12 has built in recording, on board effects and can also be used as a DAW controller if I ever get there, replaces my 40 year old Tascam Model 30 and TEAC Reel to Reels. The Minilogue XD subs for my EML 101 and Arp sequencer still in storage.:sunglasses: Daily...

    Neumann NDH 30

May I even dare say I might actually keep an eye open on a black, I've recently been putting a new small Electronic Music (think the likes of Varese et al) Work Station together so the Neumann would be better suited, been almost a 30 year hiatus....without getting carried away thought I'd keep...

    Sennheiser HD820

I think the "color" copper or silver affects people's hearing, the electrons that move the voice coils don't care one way or another and by the time the driver membrane excites the air molecules to set off a cascade of vibrations that eventually reach our ears to then be deciphered by our brain...

    HD800s

Yes, but sorry make that 2 OEM and 1 3rd party but all 3 were made from Alcantara and with my body oils they eventual break down, no problem with the pads from the HD600 series which just eventually flatten but do not deteriorate. There is a slight change as pads are one element on all...

    HD800s

Depending on ones use, plus whisker rash and body oils the pads do eventually disintegrate, went through 3 pairs of OEM before switching to sheep/lamb skin. Not a good idea to inhale any foreign objects but don't think the flakes are air-born. JFYI the main HD800S thread...

Show us your Head-Fi station at it's current state. No old pictures please...

Nice...Home studios are more than capable these days and manageable space wise, the Model 12 is the New Porta Studio.....and some original K701s. I started with the K240DFs back in the 70s and a wall of reel to reels. All the best for your son.

Show us your Head-Fi station at it's current state. No old pictures please...

Yep...selling off my old gear and modernizing a bit....the Model 12 with on board recording and can be used in context with a DAW saves me from pulling out the Reel to Reels, lol, although I'm trying to compose and record DAWlessly.. In the spirit of the thread, recent shot of my 40 year old...
