Soundmagic pl-30 20.00 shipped
I just got a pair of PL30 from focalprice, and while for the price it is a good deal, they didn't really live it up to the "hype". My reference headphones are the Koss KSC75 ($15-20 retail) and Etymotic ER-4P ($250 retail). Although, they are a step up from the iPod earbuds, they sound a little...- Halide

Help me get to know my DAC-AH. (280kb pics)
i should have thought twice about changing out the voltage regulators. that was SO hard to desolder... especially with the crappy solder sucker i had. i just unscrewed the ones that were there and basically ripped them off with some needle nose pliers. then pulled each leg out one by one. i...- Halide

Help me get to know my DAC-AH. (280kb pics)
Ok, I ordered microsinks for the dac chips and 2x 3.3uF Auricaps for the bypass. If I don't get enough output voltage I'll change the voltage regulators to 8v. Can someone tell me if the 100k resistor from the RCA out to ground needs to be high quality or can I just use the 5% radio shack...- Halide

Circuit error in Lite DAC-AH: Easy fix
So the stock DAC-AH is supposed to sound better than an M-Audio revolution (you would think since it is ~$85 sound card)? Maybe my system isn't "good" enough... I don't know... I have a $400 stereo amp (rotel rb-1050) and I DIY'd some 2-way speakers which cost me about $400 including all parts...- Halide

Help me get to know my DAC-AH. (280kb pics)
Hi guys... I'm interested in doing the passive mod + 8v mod. First of all, I need about all the output I can get because I like to listen to music relatively loud and I am using bookshelf type speakers with a 70 watt per channel power amp (which needs a good signal to get loud). So, I'm...- Halide

Circuit error in Lite DAC-AH: Easy fix
I just received a stock DAC-AH. I have 510 ohm 1/4w vishay/dale 2% resistors. Can I put these in parallel with R35/R36 with good results? Also, I need to get a decent multimeter from ratshack since this one I have is like 30 years old and doesn't appear to be working correctly. [edit]...- Halide

Ety's
I'd have to say electronic music is not their strong part... but it does sound pretty good with my tube amp. like someone said, they lack the bass slam that so many techno songs have- Halide

Please help a t00b-n00b - or, tube amp Dos and Don'ts
I just got one too. Maybe you should turn it on in the morning and off in the evening to save your tubes a little... The longer they stay on the more heat damage is done (am I right?)... that sounds good enough to me- Halide

Wow! Inexpensive tube amp kit for newbies
Quote: Originally posted by aerius I'm not familiar at all with Sony's receivers so it's hard for me to say. I can only compare it to my family's 70's vintage Telefunken 7050 receiver and 8 Ohm 88dB sensitive Braun speakers. That receiver was worth well over $1000 in 1970's money...- Halide

Wow! Inexpensive tube amp kit for newbies
I'm interested in this kit...my dad has some new speakers that are 91 dB sensitivity, full range (no subwoofer) He thinks it probably isn't very good since it's cheap. Right now he has a pretty old Sony "ES" series receiver that doesn't have preouts... I'm pretty sure this amp would probably...- Halide
