Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)

The quad HD on some of the later models is engaged only when >16 bit files are played on the native music player. I reencoded my music to 24bit without added dither, with makes the files bit identical in FLAC, bit triggers the HD symbol. However if you use PowerAmp APP or Neutron APP with the...

Why did LG do the V60 like this?

I guess so. In the past they had B&O and Meridian doing it, where usually there is some expertise (who knows these days), but if it was an LG DIY, maybe they screwed it up. Digital filters are well understood, but without a deep understanding it is easy to make a mess of it.

Why did LG do the V60 like this?

If I recall correctly on the G8, the Qualcomm DAC is used if you use the built in music player and other APPs if 16bit or less audio is played, to save power. The Quad DAC is enabled when it sees"hi-rez". So I edited my music files to make them 24bit FLAC, adding LSB zeros. This doesn't take...

    What is "PRAT"?

Perhaps we should define This is some of it. But it is not exclusively "lively". Their are other types of music which need a different type of timing accuracy. The P - Pace, is about the perceived speed of the track. Obviously it does not speed up or slow down the actual playback speed...

    What is "PRAT"?

I I'm interested in your arguement about single ended verses balanced. It has pros and cons. But I haven't notice PRaT aspects in my travels.

NEW Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H95 ANC Headphones - Reviews & Impressions

New android APP (probably other platforms too). I was still having issues connecting the H95 after previously fixing it. The new APP immediately saw my H95 without any prompting and connected seamlessly. About time they fixed this. (Xperia Pro I) I don't need it for much, but good to have...

Has anyone actually tested the burn-in myth?

Well as I said above, the measured changes from more involved analysis are not in the frequency response, but in the compliance. So this is interesting, but not helpful in proving anything. Burn-in is subtle, but if something sounds pretty good, it tends to get better, depending on materials.

Has anyone actually tested the burn-in myth?

This is a subject that rolls on by opinion rather than gathered facts, like many other aspects discussed on the internet. The fact of the matter is , if you do not want to hear a difference, that just as easy to achieve, as hearing a difference that is not there. The industry best acoustic...

    Neumann NDH 30

Also if this happens gradually as in aging, the perceived tonal response doesn't change, i.e. you don't feel a shut in sound because the top end is diminished. Sudden loss of hearing will cause that to happen more. So older experienced listeners will still need a flat response (within their...

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)

It has abtx, abtxHD and abtx Adaptive. abtx lossless can never be lossless over bluetooth as there is not enough bandwidth. It gets close, but I am sure it dynamically scales data rate depending on signal integrity like adaptive and LDAC. It should be better than AAC on Apple (which is far...

Just a bit of info for a limited number of people here: The AKG K872 hardcase fits the NDH30 (and I presume NDH20) very well.

Agreed with the above. These are not headphones that initially "impress" like some more commercial designs with overblown bass and a mid treble boost to offset it. (We all here can point fingers at those brands - (Beats set the trend, and others had to follow or die off). They are mostly...

I will take a (Japanese made) MX5 over a Corvette any day, because handling and build quality matter more than noise and flashiness. If Lotus could make cars as reliable as Mazda, I would go for them, but they don't. So I like having a Sennheiser headphone with tighter tolerances and tuned for...

    Neumann NDH 30

This is always a nice upgrade if there were issues in the first place. However you will now be TOO clean to be neutral, as youears should have a little wax for general protection. So you will need to let your ear canals run-in before they sound at there nominal best.:dt880smile:

That was what I was implying. But you are right: SPDIF (Sony Philips Digital Interface Format I recall) is the format, and is carried by coax and Toslink, and is also the basis of AES-EBU (just some user bits and copy registers altered). It carries the data and the frame clocks and is very...

    Neumann NDH 30

But all things are not equal. Toslink has more inherent jitter when both are designed well, and is not often capable of >96kHz. SPDIF can be good if the impedance is well matched and the PLL is well sorted, and as you are correctly worried about indifferent grounding issues it also can be...

I have. I also designed plenty of audio equipment, for brands you've heard of. Just because it wasn't designed for audio, it doesn't mean it is bad at it. It has plenty of redundant bandwidth, and is jitter independent if asynchronous. The industry regards it as better than toslink, SPDIF...

If it wasn't an asynchrouous USB connection, you may be right, but with the right type it should be the best. After that it is down to implementation and the skills of the designer. Giving out blanket statements as fact, when they are based on potentially unscientific listening results (did...

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

Why do you always call someone a troll when they say something that you cannot argue effectively against. You regularly call me a troll just because I disagree with you. I have only trolled you once...

Why do you specify that order of quality? While USB does not give electrical isolation (but it can easily if you galvanically isolate the USB), it can be entirely jitter free as a format, unlike most of the other formats if it is asynchronous type of USB connection. Then the DAC runs on its...

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)

Sony Xperia is expensive, but if you get a previous generation than the latest they discount heavily. They all appear to have the same fairly good headphone output.

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

I find that the Kenwood brand has most consistently made evenly toasting bread products. Many toasters are inconsistent between models and examples but Kenwood has better quality control. I have not done blind testing though, as I don't want to burn my fingers. (not the HiFi Kenwood brand that...

I finally found a place with these headphones on demo. Guitar Center with a studio demo room had them in the locked glass cabinet. It took 4-5 tracks on my Xperia phone to confirm these are really special. Special enough to walk out with them on the promise they will scale on an amp. I tried...
