Stax Lambda Pro - should I?

I'm a little perplexed by the replies on this thread [buy buy buy] as this is a guy sold on K1000s. I've heard the Lambda normal bias and the 404s, neither of which IMO match up with the sonic properties of the K1000s at all. Are the pros *that* sonically different from their cousins?

So no one asks what your impressions were during breakin and why you were dissatisfied? At at this point--after 48 hours--how would you characterize the improvements in sonics?

    The Stax thread

Going through some old eBay bookmarked auctions, I came across this one for a SB SRD-7mk2: http://cgi.ebay.com/STAX-SRD-7SB-Mk2...QQcmdZViewItem Couldn't figure out why it went so cheaply, until I read this in the description: IMPORTANT NOTE: Although STAX have been offer the 5-pin PRO-bias...

Thanks, Tom. Sounds like the high bias version would be more to my liking. How similar are the Pro Lambdas to the current 404s?

    STAX Lambda: K1000 Owner Dissatisfied

So far I'm decidedly underwhelmed with the low-bias Lambdas. No bite, diminished detail and an overall darker presentation as compared to the K1000s. Both cans used with tubed Cary amp, BTW. Question: from all I've read, it sounds like the 404s offer a "brighter" presentaion and might provide...

Why do K-1000 auctions get so many zero feedback bidders?

It's either shill bidding or people sign up to eBay expressly to bid on those cans. Here's one from 10 days ago: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9732653578&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 And this current one [seller and zero-feedback bidder both from Hong Kong]...

Along the same lines [re the sonic compromises using a low-bias transformer with high-bias headphones], I came across this from a 6Moons review of the SR-404: Quote: The ribbon-type umbilicals of today's transformer-less 'phones terminate in five gold-plated pins. Those also fit the...

Long, meandering comparison of Stax 404 and Stax X-III, Episode I

Just to tie up one [possibly] loose end re using high-bias Stax models with low-bias transformers: What exactly is the sonic downside? and Is there any risk of damage to the headphones?

Thanks [again] Lloyd, for carefully answering my questions. For one, I see that I'm not limited to current production high-bias models--and in fact the low-bias model may even be preferable.
