Audio hardware showing up as emulated (and annoying hissing while playing music)

I disabled the integrated audio to no result. But dxdiag is scaring me: ------------- Sound Devices ------------- Description: SB X-Fi Audio [9C00] (emulated) Default Sound Playback: Yes Default Voice Playback: Yes Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0005&SUBSYS_00211102&REV_00 Manufacturer...

Audio hardware showing up as emulated (and annoying hissing while playing music)

They were at full and best quality, and changing them back and forth did nothing. It is seeming more and more like a directx problem, as dxdiag tells me that the card is not capable of hardware buffering. Update: According to System Info, the x-fi was sharing an IRQ with my graphics card, so...

Audio hardware showing up as emulated (and annoying hissing while playing music)

My x-fi xtrememusic has recently started exhibiting an annoying hissing while listening to music or gaming. I can escape it with kernel streaming in foobar, so I'm sure it's not a hardware problem, but during games it is impossible to avoid. For some reason, it as well as my integrated audio...

my videocard is contaminating my sound!

I had this same problem a few weeks ago http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f46/hi...e-mode-304879/ Granted, it was with a passively-cooled x1300, but moving the soundcard to the bottom of the case eliminated the problem.

Hissing and popping - XtremeMusic game mode

Moving the card down worked! Game Mode now sounds like what Entertainment did, and the other two are silent. The hissing and popping are only present at extremely high volumes in Game Mode, and I can't notice them over game sounds or music at my normal volume. Thanks a bunch guys.

Hissing and popping - XtremeMusic game mode

There's one slot between it at the GPU. I believe that there is one more slot underneath it, and I guess if it comes to shielding I'll try that.

Hissing and popping - XtremeMusic game mode

My X-FI XtremeMusic card has been doing this recently in game mode only. It seems to mimic the actions I make with my mouse (i.e. dragging a window, moving over items in the start menu) and makes an annoying hum in games. The frequency of the popping varies depending on how many programs I have...

    3.5mm extension cable <1m

I need a short headphone extension cable to snake to the front of my computer, as the headphone out jack in the front of it doesn't work after my upgrade from integrated audio (as I expected). I prefer not to leave my headphones plugged into the soundcard all the time, as they are my only pair...

X-fi XtremeMusic - where to buy?

Some of those are definitely not the card I remember (the SB0460) and I don't believe I have that type of PCI express slot. Some of the others are dead links or out of stock. I guess ebay is the place to go. Anyone have a certain seller they would recommend?

X-fi XtremeMusic - where to buy?

I've seen them on ebay, some computer manufacturer sites and amazon, but I'm not really sure where to get the best deals. Most ebay auctions are $20 less than what I'm finding elsewhere, but for how long.... I would prefer to not spend more than $80 on one, with $100 as my max limit. Thanks for...

    Dolby Headphone vs crossfeed

I also enjoy the effect that Dolby Headphone generates, and prefer it in combination with a 2ch>5.1ch plugin to crossfeed. This is the only hardware solution for Dolby Headpone that I know of, besides an amp or receiver with the technology built-in.
