I prefer the PtoS switch off as I feel it gives a warmer sound while still delivering plenty of solid, controlled bass. I find that I tend to listen at a volume level of about 3 most of the time.

I've used the SE530s directly from the headphone jack on my iPod and to my ears they sound superb, maybe even slightly better than my ER-4P through a Minibox-E+ which also sounds very good. IMHO, I found that running the Shures through the Minibox didn't improve the sound quality at all.

People on here seem to rate the Goldring DR-150 in that price range and in a lot of cases prefer them over the Sen 555s. Apparently, they're also fairly easy to drive. There's a huge thread about them on here somewhere.
