ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs
I personally don't believe in the magic power of cables to alter the inherent sound of a transducer. The Clairvoyances are, as well, impressively detailed. And if the lack of detail was what kept you from liking the JVC, I can see how these IEMs would suit your preferences. Edit- I actually...- dmcs414

ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs
Since I see there's a few other Aphex Twin fans around, I should note my Clairvoyances came in today, and I'm atm listening to one of my favorite Aphex test tracks, produk 29 [101] off Syro. Here it is on Qobuz if you happen to use that. https://open.qobuz.com/track/19156543 Otherwise I...- dmcs414

Monoprice Monolith Liquid Platinum - By Alex Cavalli
I figure this seems an ok place to ask this question since you guys are familiar with Cavalli amps so I'll give it a go. Some years ago I had the pleasure of listening to an amp Alex brought to a Head-Fi meet in Austin called Liquid Glass, a tube hybrid amp which I imagine is out of production...- dmcs414

Open-back, bassy (think TH900) yet mostly Harman target aligned headphone for around 2K?
I owned a pair of LCD-2s (the pre-Fazor original type) back around 2013, are those essentially the same as the LCD-2C?- dmcs414

Open-back, bassy (think TH900) yet mostly Harman target aligned headphone for around 2K?
I had an Audeze LCD-2 at one point, I believe it was the pre-Fazor version. This would have been about 2013 if I recall correctly. I don't recall being able to get much slam out of it, although the texture and quality of the bass was indeed nice. I think when I tried to raise the bass up a few...- dmcs414

Open-back, bassy (think TH900) yet mostly Harman target aligned headphone for around 2K?
I've been out of the game for awhile. Where do I go these days for an open-back, bass-forward (think TH900) but mostly Harman target oriented headphone for around 2K? Whether achieved out of the box or with EQ, please specify. Will generally be played with RME ADI-2 DAC and a solid amp of one...- dmcs414

Austin Meet interest?
I'm just recently returning to the hobby after an extended (multi-year) hiatus, and would love to come down from Houston. All I have at the moment is my Schiit stack of Modi Multibit and Magni 3, TH-X00 purplehearts, and some misc. chi-fi IEMs, but I'm happy to bring them along and assist if I can.- dmcs414

FiiO is Giving Out 2 Free K3 Headphone Amplifier & USB-C DAC! Wanna win one? Simply reply to this thread on/before 12.12!
First ever USB DAC/amp was an E17K which was still going strong until the OLED light burned out. Solid little unit with nice EQ too.- dmcs414

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones
Would someone be kind enough to give me a quick rundown of the top most commonly used alternate pads (aside from Audeze Vegans) that most people seem to agree enhance rather than detract from the stock sound? I've got some M1060 V2s on the way to me and would like to pick up a few sets of alt...- dmcs414

[New] Philips Fidelio X1
I just ordered a pair of these, along with a v-moda BoomPro mic/cable for PC gaming (mostly league) purposes. I plan to use my FiiO E17 DAC/amp to drive it. Anyone else happen to have this setup and would care to share their experiences? I'm hoping the E17 suffices as a DAC and amp and am...- dmcs414

Post A Photograph Of Your Turntable
Here's a picture of my girl. Since the 'real' girlfriend and I called it quits recently, it's just me and my beautiful Rega now. Oh, but how she is in desperate need of love of companionship as much anyone! See how sad she looks? Every day I get that same sullen look; *sigh* "Would it...- dmcs414

Dallas, TX - Sunday, June 9th, 2013 - The "Not Quite In The Oven Yet" meetup
Thanks friends to those of you who sent me the little gentle reminders about this. I'm really looking forward to it. So, if I just happen to have my Rega RP3 + integrated + speaker (maybe sub) system humming along nicely by this meet, might that be something I could consider bringing...- dmcs414

Around a grand to spend on speakers (for Rega RP3 system) -- Zu/Tekton or Magnepan MMG+DWM?
Hi all, I recently picked up a Rega RP3 turntable with Elys2 cart and am now deciding on amp+speakers in what will be my first "real" hifi system. I'm planning to spend about a grand on speakers, and have looked at all sorts of different options, including full-range, monitors+subs...- dmcs414

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Yup, I've been lurking there quite a bit lately and made my first post last night on this very topic. Actually it was audiokarma that made me think it an OK idea to buy the turntable and amp that I did. And I debated whether it was even appropriate to ask about speakers with my vintage amp /tt...- dmcs414

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Speaking of the DFW area, this here vulture did in fact nab that Sansui AU-717 on Craigslist for $250 today, from a very pleasant elder gentleman in Garland. It's old, and is definitely a little worn around the edges, but it's heavy as hell, and works great, and best of all is now mine...- dmcs414

Hurm, I better get movin' on the formalities. Maxvla, I'll sync up with you sometime soon and send PayPal before the 28th for sure. I'm definitely still planning to head down with whatever gear I happen to have and can fit in the car; at the very least my newish weird vintage TT and...- dmcs414

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
One last quick question folks- before I pull the trigger on this Sansui AU-717, can you guys confirm this would make an adequate receiver and amp for either KEF R-300s or KEF LS50s? I may or may not choose to add a powered sub down the road, but these are the main 2 speaker pairs I'm...- dmcs414

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Not a great shot, but here's the Sansui AU 717 I'd potentially be buying. And yeah it does appear to have the handles. The owner says its in excellent condition and everything works, and Id plan to demo it at the guy's house.- dmcs414

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Gents I greatly appreciate all the advice, but I decided to hold out for a more powerful amp/receiver, though still most definitely vintage. I know I want something that can and will, with grace and aplomb drive speakers just like the KEF R-300, which are in fact exactly what I have my eye on...- dmcs414

Quote: Skylab your advice is, as ever, invaluable. I offered $75 and got the guy to come down to $85 which is close enough for me. Going to pick it up later today. What kind of speakers should I be looking at to use with this? Any suggestions?- dmcs414

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Hey guys, I've been shopping around for a vintage receiver and have come across a few that look interesting on my local Craisglist. Wanted to get some feedback if possible. They all appear to be in great condition and the owners say work perfectly. Marantz SR-53, 90Wx2, $50 Pioneer...- dmcs414

TURNTABLE SETUP Questions thread - don't start a new thread, ASK YOUR QUESTION HERE!
Hey turntable newbie thread- could I get some more feedback you think? Of course I noticed Travis responded, but he's a friend and I'd expect nothing less. Sorry Morbid, you're friend-zoned. But how about some Skylab weigh-ins on my TT, with hopefully some bits of wisdom -- or maybe the...- dmcs414

TURNTABLE SETUP Questions thread - don't start a new thread, ASK YOUR QUESTION HERE!
So I just purchased my first turntable in over a decade and am hoping I didn't pick too poorly. I opted to (instead of going modern) try out a vintage Philips AF-887 I found on Craigslist. It's in very good condition and costed less than I would have spent on a U-turn Orbit, which was a...- dmcs414
