Tempotec V3 DAP - small, powerful, functional with Hiby OS
I guess you could call that setup a (visual) kind of "tower of power'.- conspibro

Apparently, all the filters work properly now. On the 4PDA thread, there's measurement for impulse reponses of the various filters. Default seems to be Short Delay Sharp Roll-off for this AKM DAC (which was labelled as Sharp Roll-off in 0.0.4 and before, and both options were of the same...- conspibro

If your tracks have the proper metadata, then you can simply browse by Artists, Albums etc and play through the tracks accordingly on the player itself. It would work even if you were to dump all tracks in the player's root directory without organising them in folders.- conspibro

I'm not understanding this. Isn't this function already working properly (before this update)? I did try it myself with my phone (Hiby Music + USB exclusive mode turned on) a few weeks ago and it was straightforward.- conspibro

I think it has something to do with the V6. They didn't want to cannibalise sales of the slightly more expensive model (even though it runs on Android).- conspibro

Just as bugged on some streams as the other HibyOS devices... (Had the same experience on my older R2) Certain streams would play 4 seconds, then buffer, another 4 sec, repeat... Even though the network connection is rock solid, and other streams work fine on the devices.- conspibro

Currently testing it with my Sundara (finally)... So far so good, no distortion that I could tell, even on bass heavy tracks. Resolution is alright too on busy tracks. Compared it with my DC04 Pro as a sanity check (this dongle has slightly better resolution; and a bit more headroom to crank up...- conspibro

215 mWrms -> ~304 mWpk 304(pk) x 2ch = 608 mWpk So in a technical sense, their specs aren't complete lies. Just not abiding by conventional standards of presentation (measurements in RMS, for single channel) Are they able to drive your most demanding headphones well?- conspibro

Measurements seem almost identical to Tempotec's March III, which shares an almost identical architecture too. (See here: https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/tempotec-march-iii.26619/reviews )- conspibro

Anything that can provide 5V, like a phone charger. It can charge at 1.5A, so preferably get one that can provide 2A at least.- conspibro

@LyuboA Not sure if you've tried this yet but I wonder if it will be the same observation on your unit. I noticed I could get around the same loudness with the same IEM on a USB dongle connected to the V3 with just 20/100 on the slider, compared to 45/100 from the V3's 3.5mm output with high...- conspibro

That is what I needed to do too with some of my setups, other than the V3. I could adjust the preamp gain to 0.0 dB (i.e. no change) out of convenience, but it comes at the risk of clipping in certain tracks. It is a nice feature in HibyOS to auto-adjust, but I'd love to have a preamp gain...- conspibro

It is something like auto gain compensation (negative preamp gain) to prevent clipping. By the way, which output were you using in the scenario described and what IEM/HP was it, if you don't mind sharing?- conspibro

I know... (I was the one who shared that chat ) Which measurements did you see though? I could only find this one (that I just shared). Assuming 100 mW(rms), peak would be 100*sqrt(2) which is ~140mW. Quite close to official spec (per-ch). Meanwhile, BAL output would have a peak of...- conspibro

Tempotec V3 DAP - small, powerful, functional with Hiby OS
Apparently someone measured it (see below; from 4PDA thread) and I assume the current and power figures are for a single channel. Not sure if peak or RMS though. If those are peak figures, the 3.5mm output would be around 70mW(RMS), which is quite a bit lower than spec'd. But it does seem more...- conspibro

Tempotec V3 DAP - small, powerful, functional with Hiby OS
As a sanity check, I tried connecting my unit to PC as a USB DAC (in direct access mode, not through Linux Pipewire), and also with my DC04 Pro dongle as an external DAC (V3 as source). I'm using a pair of Sennheiser IE200 on the 3.5mm SE output. While playing the same tracks in all test cases...- conspibro

My Sundara works fine with a DC04 Pro, and this is about the same ballpark, if not slightly more powerful. So I don't doubt it will be fine too.- conspibro

It can go either way. Some do advertise that figure as per-channel , some are combined. It is all about technicality. You'll need to specifically ask the manufacturer for clarification if it is not stated upfront.- conspibro

Tempotec V3 DAP - small, powerful, functional with Hiby OS
Not gonna lie, I got this while crossing my fingers that it actually puts out 610mW per channel. But knowing "deceptive" advert claims, I also tempered my expectations. It's still the most powerful portable audio device I have around that isn't my Douk U3. Also on the shortlist was Hiby R3 ii...- conspibro

I just encountered the volume bug while holding down the vol+ key to increase that was pointed out earlier. Thanks for the heads-up! Has anyone tried driving a somewhat-demanding pair of headphones (e.g. Sundara) with your V3? How was it, especially with bass-heavy tracks? Unfortunately, I haven't really got the time lately to give it a try myself, so I'd love to hear from you guys. Seeing the op amps used here, I have...- conspibro
