They serve me well to isolate me from the sound of the computer, the screens hiss,, the chair, the mouse, the fans, all the machines in general, the windows, the fridge, the noisy neighbors etc. with E3 on, it's only about the music (and the fatigue induced tinitus).

Nomax, I agree 100% with your statement about the E3 sound. Well to me a desirable answer is a Stealth mk2. Fingers crossed... In the meantime we're in good hands.

@Frabera : anything with tubes really and some decent amount of negative feedback (the advantage of the Coil is that you can dial in the NF to your liking, which is something pretty rare, and the best thing ever created)... Or a tape emulator (be it analog or software)... Or a high frequency...

@Frabera : well Imma recommend some things from the pro world... You could buy two Coil Audio CA-70 tube preamp, put them in line level mode, and play with the negative feedback and bass setting. It doesn't get any better than that. But the pair will cost you 4k. Cheers :).

No but I mean I hear your point, too. On the Head-fi Phonitor threads, users say they drive their headphones via the XLR output to their satisfaction. There is an impedance mismatch that can't be denied. I'll have to try it to be sure.

It has been said that this XLR output can drive headphones though, and that it takes advantage of the balanced circuitry of the Phonitor. The Phonitor has a single ended TRS on the front panel but the Phonitor is entirely balanced. It's so confusing...
