    Looking for portable recommendations, non-iem

So I'm trying to find some decent headphones for laptop and pmp use. I have a couple odd requirements though. 1) No Iem's, because co-workers can sneak up on me. so I don't need the isolation. Also I have some super.fi 3's already and I can't wear them for long without them hurting a bit or...

    DIY class D headhphone amps?

The hardest part about working with class D stuff is that most of it is of crappy quality or they are in a package that does not lend itself to prototyping well. (ie bga, tqfp) I've used the TPA2000 chip before as it is a TSSOP package. (ti.com)

Nasa has a new Rocket huh? I need me one of these!

Read the thing about the "mach disks" , that impressed me the most. Ion drives are used primarily in space for long slow acceleration, they don't have the Specific Impulse (Is) to get a shuttle off the ground.

    Heatsink calculations... lack of information

There should be some heatsinks available that are designed to specifically dissipate that amount of heat for a given package. Is the temperature of the junction that important? I guess where I get confused is that either you are overloading your part and you wish to heatsink it to obtain...

Boutique Capacitors - Where to buy?

partsconnexion.com has them. Mainly they are considered Blackgates (all), Nichicon (some) and then all of the metal film caps. I'm new to this boutique thing as well so someone else can probably fill in the specifics.

Help, first time buying real headphones

I own the A500's which are the little brother to the A700's and A900's. And they are quite nice phones. Very comfortable and are very large so the pad completely surrounds the ear. And going from some cheap headset to them was awesome. Just to clear some terminology up for you and clarify...

    Recc. Gaming Headphones ~$100

I also recommend the A500's. They are closed headphones so you won't hear other people around you. They are low impedance which means they are easy to drive from your computer and won't need an external amp. And I own them and can vouch for their excellent sound. I too once believed in...

Rohs compliance = deadly tin whiskers?

RoHS is for all items sold/imported in the EU save a couple exceptions. Your own personal use you can still do pretty much what you want.

This is a bigger deal for electronics in space than it is on the ground.

Looking at my first headphone amp

So I've been looking around for a while and I'm finally looking to take the plunge into audiophileness. I personally use my computer as my source most often so portability is not an issue. So a desktop amp is fine. I'm using ATH-AD500's currently. I know these can be driven well and all...
