    T+A HiFi - DAC 200 - Official Discussion Thread

The oversampling in Roon is excellent quality. Far better than any algorithm running on chip DAC. Dramatic improvement for sure and what convinced me to go down the rabbit hole of PC based oversampling and ultimately to HQ player. After being floored by the sonic improvements and being aware of...

All the PCM settings sound good but the best PCM sound for 44.1 or 48KHz will be if you use an excellent oversampling software on a PC to raise it to at least 4x or preferably 8x. The mathematics of oversampling are very clear when using the low latency upsampling filter built in to every modern...

Do you have the correct drivers? The DAC supports DSD direct. https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/67498-zen-stream-cant-pass-dsd256-dop-vs-direct-dsd/ Yes the DSD converter is used with DoP

Nice review but I was surprised to find the reviewer has “an engineering degree in digital signal processing”, but neglected to discuss the problems with ALL chip based DACs. Bezier filtering will help reduce the typical “echoes” found in all DAC chip processors (from equiripple in passband)...

You need to hear the T+A DAC200 - especially played through the true DSD one bit discrete DAC. It is so much better than anything I have experienced. I have not heard the Holo May in my setup but that is an alternative which is apparently stellar too. There is a problem with the sound quality...

OK. Good answer. At 3x the price we all know what you are referring to anyway. There are only a handful of DACs above 20,000 and most of us never get to listen to them at home in our own system anyway (which is really the only way to fully evaluate).

What very high-end DACs have you tried and feel the DAC200 is competitive with or on par with sound quality?

I find the DAC 200 remarkable - so much detail and yet so natural sounding. I agree with @DonaldM - it is like really good vinyl - finally digital equals and in some areas exceeds vinyl (I was resigned to think that vinyl would always have the edge in some aspects but no longer - DAC200!) As...

Interesting. In regard HQP and DAC200… For vocals I find poly-sinc-ext2 and ASDM7EC super to convert to DSD256 to be the best for Redbook - it is extremely vivid and revealing with so much reverb and microphone detail - incredibly intimate - I never imagined Eva Cassidy or Melody Gardot could...

Hard to say. You may have heard this depending on processing and the starting point and in particular the DAC chip (for example ESS chips all reconvert everything to PCM then again to DSD). Upsampling PCM to DSD256 seems to give the most accurate soundstage in my setup but width and depth can...

Yes this matches what I hear exactly. 11 is what I would call centre stage to me. I am familiar with most of the equipment you demoed apart from the streamers. I listen on an ATC high end model you likely haven’t heard. The recording is rather unremarkable IMHO and I fail to see your point. I...

Looking for A Home has one vocalist centred and the other is to the right about 4-6 feet from the centred vocals. If you are interested in this kind of spatial testing then I recommend Naturally 7. Ready or Not (Live) has a wealth of positions from centred to all around to every spot in the...

Just an update to this thread for anyone interested in T+A DAC200. My favourite filter settings with HQP for upsampling 44.1 KHz PCM to DSD256 for USB input to DAC200. Modulator ASDM7EC-super Filter: poly-sinc-ext2 I recommend this as a starting point. Only 20% CPU usage on a M2 Max Studio. I...

Great comments and I agree 100% it would be great to be able to buy a DSD only discrete 1 bit DAC with galvanic isolation and superb power supply without paying for volume control, headphone amp, regular R2R or chip based DAC that can handle any PCM. I think the issue is market size or volume -...

You are very lucky indeed. If this works for you then this thread about a $7000 DAC isn’t the best place to get answers that would make sense to you. You would not be wrong for thinking this is a totally crazy obsession with sound quality given there are great smartphones out there that do so...

    T+A HiFi - DAC 200 - Official Discussion Thread

Unfortunately, this level of sound quality doesn’t translate easily on lossy formats such as YouTube and the recording process itself would involve conversion/filters at least as significant in their effect on sound quality, as what one is listening for.

    T+A HiFi - DAC 200 - Official Discussion Thread

You mean as amazingly good as the DSD DAC in the T+A D200 sounds? This would have been my view a few years ago and prior to hearing the T+A DAC200 true 1 bit SDM discrete DAC play Redbook that has been upsampled to DSD256 on a PC. So I understand where you are coming from completely. There are...

Yes hybrid to me includes apodizing like a Gaussian window or and anything other than linear phase with pure sinc function. and above I meant the gaussian version - Poly-sinc-gauss-hires-lp is not sounding to my taste

    T+A HiFi - DAC 200 - Official Discussion Thread

I find anything OTHER than pure sinc function filters sound too harsh and with incorrect timbre on redbook 44.1 to DSD256 on DAC200. No problem to use Poly-sinc-gaus-hires-lp on 176KHz material - that still sounds great although Sinc-L is still better. So it appears the first upsampling is a...

    T+A HiFi - DAC 200 - Official Discussion Thread

I would not bother with Gaia DDC with DAC200. You also should use a PC to upsample everything to DSD to get the very most out of DAC200. Roon on a PC would be the best way to go. That said - the DAC200 fed PCM might still be significant step up from PS Directstream, YMMV.

    T+A HiFi - DAC 200 - Official Discussion Thread

Holo May can be set to NOS and fed PCM to their R-2R ladder DAC. If you do that then you should ideally upsample PCM to the maximum on a PC for best filtering.

Thank you for this. You saved many T+A DAC200 owners having to check out the May and vice-versa! Both DACs are obviously keepers - in fact the D200 may be my last DAC ever! I always do rapid A to B testing for several weeks before drawing a conclusion (even though the D200 has an excellent...

Note that the 8 x oversampling and digital filter is prior to the Advance Segment Architecture. So some oversampling is done on the PCM1795 on all PCM signals less than 8 x 44.1KHz. ESS chips use alternative technology to segment architecture to achieve similar results - they have 64 parallel 1...
