First CMoy Build Log (Updated 9/19/07 23:35 Eastern)

I'm pretty sure they're the same, as I picked resistors with my DMM when I began. I'll double check when I get home, though.

First CMoy Build Log (Updated 9/19/07 23:35 Eastern)

Sorry I wasn't clear about that. I took the LED out and tested from virtual ground to V+ and V-. The tutorial says that they should be within 0.1V of each other, and they are not. I tried to clean up some of my soldering and that helped a little, but they're still off. Any other suggestions?

First CMoy Build Log (Updated 9/19/07 23:35 Eastern)

About a week ago I decided that it was time for me to dive into DIY. I have a very light background in electronics, so I have some experience soldering and what not. Many years ago I was into Ham Radio, and got my Extra license before that went the way of the dodo. I don't remember much from...

How to properly connect M-Audio Studiophile BX5s?

It's pretty kick butt. It's way more sub than is needed for the bx5as. It'll definitely shake the house. As far as SQ is concerned, I'm not so sure. I'm no audio expert, but it sounds a bit muddy to me. Honestly, I'd probably look at other options to pair with these speakers. I got mine used for...

How to properly connect M-Audio Studiophile BX5s?

I have a pair of the BX5As a they don't hiss at all for me. Here's my setup Onboard sound -> mini to XLR -> KRK RP10s (sub) -> balanced XLR -> BX5a I have the speakers plugged into a standard power strip.

    Studio Monitors for home use

I have the BX5As, which I got from guitar center for $200 (they priced matched some random online website...awesome) I have it paired with a KRK RP10S. Without the sub, they pretty much have no kick. This particular sub is way too much sub for these speakers, but I got a great deal on it so I...

    Volume Adjustment and Gaming?

    1. You're describing an upgraded source here. It's not a bad option if you got the cash to spend on it. The E-Mu 0404 USB is a popular choice for sound cards around here and will set you back $199 (unless you shop around some.) http://www.emu.com/products/product....&product=15185 2. In-line...

DAC for powered monitors and headphones?

I have one of these that I use with my BX5As: http://www.krksys.com/index2.php?cat...ge=rokit_rp10s I do mini->dual XLR between my sound card and the amp, then XLRs to each of the monitors. The amp is a bit much for these speakers, but I don't mind being able to turn it up to 11 (:

Why boost the spdif input ?

Just to clarify here... You have a CD Player hooked via spdif into your sound card. If you rip files directly from the CD you get a different result from when you use the external CD Player through spdif and record it in some audio software?

    bass/tone on HD 555's

I haven't heard the AT's, but since no one else is responding, I'll chime in. I bought the HD555s as my first step into audiophilia. I was very happy with them. They were comfortable and sounded great. I'm not sure what I would call the tone on them, but you should be able to get your needs met...

iriver X20 buzzes with Ogg Vorbis

Not that it helps at all, but my rockboxed iriver h120 played it without issue. Although it does appear to have a "sneeze" problem (:

Phooey - IEM's don't seem to work for me

I had the same issue with IEMs and the silicone tips. I switched to the smallest foamies on my Shure E2Cs and now they're pretty dang comfortable.

    SHURE E2c

I recently picked up a pair for use on the train. The isolation is excellent (compared to my D2000...but that's said to have poor isolation.) The sound is decent, although it lacks any sort of bass slam. Comfort-wise, I use the smallest foam tips and they're comfortable enough for me to sleep...

Denon D2000 Right ear cup just fell off....

I have both the D2000 and the HD555. It took me a little while to get used to the D2000 (because it's heavier), but now that I have the 555s don't "disappear" like the D2000s do. I think a lot of it has to do with the clamping force. The 555s grip, the D2000s don't.
