I plugged mine into the USB-C charger for my MacBook (via a C-toC cable) and it charged, no problem.

Could be a fit issue—if one side fits a little better than the other and seals more, it can sound louder.

DragonFly 1.0 or 1.2? If it's 1.0 I agree with you, but I think the 1.2 beats the microStreamer.

How do you remove it, with nail polish remover? (I had assumed that wouldn't work since the earpieces are acrylic as well.)

  Are you on iOS 7? I got 24/96 to work under iOS 6. Under 7 it appears to work but the audio stutters. 

Along that line, I've quite liked the JH13 Pro with the HRT microStreamer and (particularly) the AudioQuest DragonFly. Though I'm curious to see if the Geek and Herus improve on those models.
