    Dsavitsk/Beezar Torpedo Build Thread

A situation that I prefer the MiniMax is for office listening. Australia is fairly strict on who can fiddle on the 240V (120V) side of the transformer (for anything at all), so the ability to have a tested and tagged 24V transformer means I can have my handbuilt amp in very safety conscious...

Which Mcap EVO are you using? I have been considering the Al+Oil as a decent cap that I can get for a decent price (ClarityCaps are tougher to get at a decent price in Oz) and avoid shoehorning a slightly oversized cap in place.

How did you find the difference between the Crosscaps and Z-Silvers? What about the fit, aren't they a few mm long?   I'll gladly take them...PM incoming.

    Dsavitsk/Beezar Torpedo Build Thread

Local electronic parts store (Jaycar) didn't have any 125mA, so bought 100mA (too small) and 160mA (...not too small) fuses.   My goodness this is an amazing amp. Currently running the 6J6 through a pair of AKG K240M, hearing things that I've previously never heard (Millet MiniMAX). Looking...

    Dsavitsk/Beezar Torpedo Build Thread

Hmm, I'm almost certain I read 250mA but you've got me questioning myself now...will confirm when I get home.    The level of protection was my concern, not a fan of losing the power transformer...I wasn't sure what sort of margins were afforded with the nominated fuse.

    Dsavitsk/Beezar Torpedo Build Thread

Just finished the construction of the amp and about to work through the test steps...just want to confirm the fuse value for 240v. Simple maths is 125mA, or is it not such a big deal and the 250mA should be fine?   By the way, seriously awesome build, looking forward to agreeing that it sounds...

AMB y2 balanced output module development

Have you built the y2 already? If not, what about a the Twisted Pear Opus? It uses the same DAC chip and is designed with this kind of modularity/expandability in mind. I suspect you'll find that modifying the y2 will be a clumsy path to your objective, it simply isn't designed with this type of...

New Millett Hybrid MiniMAX (what happened to this thread?)

Can you expand on 'particularly hot'? Its not dependent on the BJTs but on the bias point you are at. Mine isn't 'particularly hot' on the outside either and I don't have my thermometer here (at work) so I can't provide any better indication either. I know that Beefy once did some measurements...

    one 48inch 1080i monitor VS two 22 in LCD's LATENCY/BEST for audio

Probably a better question for Gear-Fi... I'd stick with two monitors, after all, you do have two eyes. What you really need to focus on is reducing crosstalk, you'd be better off with a monoblock computer per screen. And then a third, independent computer to handle audio.

New Millett Hybrid MiniMAX (what happened to this thread?)

Its not really an apples to apples comparison. Its really whether you want to DIY. Do you have other builds under your belt or experience soldering? If not, I'd suggest your eat your extra $30 making a little CMOY before embarking on the MiniMAX.

    New Millett Hybrid Maxed Amp

Hmm, tough. I'd say go with the mini, If you're anything like me you'll love the custom case. I think you need to get up to speed with the new boards: opamps (OPA627, etc) are out, discrete buffers are in. Indulgence.

    New Millett Hybrid Maxed Amp

Ah, sorry, I think I wasn't clear. The Mosfet Max is best for low impedance, Mini Max is best for high impedance. I'm not much for 'impedance adaptors', I think you're better off matching phones to circuits but YMMV. I find its just an excuse to build more amps and buy more phones...

    New Millett Hybrid Maxed Amp

The difficulty is moderate, with those two builds under your belt, you should be alright. Tubing rolling is an option, limited sensibly to 12AE6, 12FM6 and 12FK6. You also have very worthwhile transistor rolling, and caps too. I think it was Tom that summarised that it depends on your...

    Looking for good build project

Speakers certainly look nice. What amp? DC coupled B1 Buffer There's a group buy for the boards round those parts as well. Or you could run a regular B1 with separate 18V power supplies for each channel using each of the secondaries of the transformer.

    Looking for good build project

Another thing to set to minimum? I don't know what VS speakers (google shows a lot of 'versus', not much VS) are but it sounds like they're either really sensitive or your amp has too much gain...

    YARAAP

Nice price range: - MiniMAX - M3 - CKKIII - CTH My vote is for the miniMAX. PCB and custom case makes for very sexy. Good amount of customisation too, plenty of cap, transistor and tube options to help you get 'that' sound.

Aussie AMB M3 group build IC

y1/2 parts are a good idea. I've ordered my AMB parts, so I'm getting a spreadsheet together to cover the rest of the components. Does anybody know who has the OPA2365 in stock?

    M^3 Capacitors

Ah, silly tired Josh did not see local bypassing with C8. I had the low ESR part sorted, which is why I thought I'd get fancy with extra film caps (very low ESR compared to 'lytics). Cbb is in the feedback loop. Not quite in the signal path (ala coupling cap), particularly without any boost...
