I can see why those would be deal breakers. I too use my MJ3 as a preamp for my two Gjallarhorns to power harder to drive headphones as well as a pair of Klipsch RP600m speakers.

I am still hopeful that Jason will figure out a power solution for the Valhalla 3 though. It would be interesting to see how that turns out, and at what price point it starts at. Depending on price, I might order one along with a Yggdrasil next year. I just feel the need to have a bigger pile...

The Aegis looks good, and we are all forever falling deeper down that rabbit hole! I am interested in it as well, but I am leaning towards upgrading my DAC next year vs buying a Tube amp. Also, the Aegis' weight might require me to buy a equipment rack to put beside my desk.:sweat_smile:

I will let you know my impressions of them once I have them in hand and spend a few hours listening with them. As far as the Caldera, i doubt I will be purchasing one in the near future. Maybe down the line though :wink:. I would most likely pick up a Yggdrasil before a Caldera purchase...

Keep in mind that your headphone collection will also dictate which amp will work best for you.

Yes, that can happen depending on the tolerances they allow for machining the components. I don't own that headphone, but that can happen with any manufacturer.

Planar headphones can do bass well, but it is amp dependent, so your mileage may vary. I have owned both Sundara and Arya V3 from Hifiman with no issues. They have gotten way better at quality control since a few years ago. There are threads on this site dedicated to headphones that reproduce...

I know the Valhalla 2 is still available, but he Valhalla 3 is supposed to be a major improvement over it. My headphone collection is mostly Planar, so I am looking for a Tube amp that can drive most headphones well (several of them are hard to drive properly).

I don't know why, but for some reason this combo just sounds really good: Wiim Pro > Bifrost 2/64 > Mjolnir 3 > 2 x Gjallarhorn > Moonlight Feeding them directly from the Mjolnir 3 sounds good too (more detail), but I prefer the Gjallarhorns. Is 30 watts a channel overkill? yes, but it works...

I know, I can't drop 9k on an amp either. It would be nice though :wink: I am looking at Tube amp options between $1k and 3k as well. Edit: I just dropped 3k on a ZMF Atrium LTD + pads just last week, so that is why the amp would be a 2025 purchase.

A tube amp in on my short list for 2025 purchases, lol. It will take the place of the Burson Soloist 3xp on my desk setup. Edit: I was eyeing a Valhalla 3, but it seems that it is now on Schiit's back burner.
