Corda Opera (with DAC) on the way!!
Congrats - the Opera is an awesome investment. I tried one for 3 weeks (also with the Denon 5000's) before eventually sending it back, mostly because I wanted a toslink port, less USB jitter, and the DAC was not as clean, detailed or revealing as a dedicated separate DAC (or the Benchmark DAC1)...- splawren

By my posts - you can probably tell I have NO IDEA what I'm doing for the rolling process, but I'm still doing it anyway - and it's definitely worth the trouble. Thanks for the browndog suggestion - off to butcher some soldering . . .- splawren

I know this has been sort-of asked, but how are people mouting the 8656 replacement for the 8616 feeding the DAC? The 4652s and 2111 are great b/c they're already DIP config, but the 8656 requires soldering onto either: 1) the adapter used by the ibasso or 2) a new adapater that I'd like to...- splawren

So - has anyone else noticed that ibasso is putting a white "paste" or glue on the batteries AND THE OPAMPS? On the 8616 and 823, they've glued the adapter to the board and sockets using the paste. I don't see that in Jamato's pictures. Anyone else dealing with this in the opamp rolling ideas...- splawren

Update - After the second email, I got a response today saying the d1 was shipping and should arrive Tuesday. Good news - psyched. While they are swamped, they still need to ensure good communication with the customer, however impatient, unreasonable or annoying he may be . . .- splawren

Review: Entire Meier Audio Headphone Amp Line Compared
Now, what would be a truly wonderful addition to the Meier line, having listened to the Move and Opera (both ends of the spectrum) would be a Meier "Opus" model with a monster good DAC side. I thought the only weak point of the Opera was the DAC, which had noticeable judder issues via USB (the...- splawren

I'm confused and a bit irked. I ordered one on 9/12 - they charged my paypal, but they never sent any order confirmation/acknowledgment or any delivery status updates. Two emails to them since asking for confirmation and/or updates have gone completely unanswered. Not an auspicious way to start...- splawren

Denon D5000 owners feedback required.
I'm curious on this too - my cable has the white cotton (?) stuffing sticking through already, despite being babied. Something more robust (obviously with sound quality improvement) would be appreciated. . .- splawren

Grado GS1000--first impressions not so good
I'm sorry for going with the OT thread and ranting again . .. The car analogy has already been explained and distinguished, but I'll add that they "tell" you about the burn-in. With documentation like that for the speakers listed above, break-in is a known factor in the purchase and performance...- splawren

Grado GS1000--first impressions not so good
Ditto. I can understand the idea (mechanical drivers need some leg stretching in headphones, capacitors need some "chemical?" stretching and burn-in in amps). However, the "burn-in" times have gotten absurdly high, almost to the point where you won't have a "good" or "proper" product until...- splawren

Review : Denon D5000, Audio Technica AD2000 and Sennheiser HD595
Great and detailed review! Soundinista - what are the other 2-3 headphones "to beat", out of curiosity? (And not to go too OT, what parts of your HR Desktop are "Max'd" out - just the DAC or other parts too? (I'm in the market . . . )).- splawren

Does Sennheiser USA ever answer email's
My own experience was quite good with Senn. I did the in-warranty repair request via email found on their site. I got no fewer than 5 emails from a rep there who was really helpful and ensured the repair was done for free (stretching the in-warranty definition a bit). Maybe summer break has hit...- splawren

X-Fi and NO 5.1 or 7.1 via digital out
Iceroid - What do you think about the fact that the auz still uses the creative drivers? I don't think that should be a problem, though the x-fi drivers have occasionally wonked out . . .- splawren

X-Fi and NO 5.1 or 7.1 via digital out
OK, perhaps this was obvious to many on this board and others, but I have just realized that the X-Fi series of boards, including mine, Fatal1ty, cannot be used as a HT setup using the digital outs. The X-Fi won't wrap or ouput an 5.1 or 7.1 AC3 or DTS multichannel signal via the optical or...- splawren

My ATH-AD2000 dilemma
Always the best way to decide is to listen for yourself. . . I had a listen for a day with the AD2000 and found that I liked it, but needed more time with it to make a final decision. I'm still curious to hear the K701. Some stores will let you do the 10-30 day money back thing, some won't, but...- splawren

SOLVED: Denon AD-D5000 lettering question w/ pix!
I agree - the "no-lettering" look can be appealing, but some of the deliberately buffed or sanded-down wood cup pictures I saw of the D5000 made the finish look scratcy and uneven. I like the finish it has, and would actually prefer the lettering to stay on unless I choose to remove it (i.e. for...- splawren
