EarMen Colibri
I’ll add to that. I have a Khadas Tea that is technically weaker and powers the Aeons much better. I do actually have a Gryphon so I’m good hands there. Just wanted a more portable one but I will stick with the Khadas for that. I understand 16 isn’t 13, but it’s very close. And people on this...- ShootingStills

I agree. But why would they advertise such available power? You all seem to have the common knowledge that it’s not possible and I would expect at LEAST that from the manufacturer- ShootingStills

EarMen Colibri
I now have two Earmen Colibri and both are going back today. Completely falsely advertised at 500+mw at 16 ohms. When I plug in the aeon Noires and turn up the volume there is a tonne of bass distortion on both devices… bought a second to check it was a defect. Frustrates me how a company...- ShootingStills

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
Well it won’t be anything to do with the ‘DAC’ as that is totally transparent and converts digital to analogue completely neutrally. Maybe you feel the headphone amp is not to your liking. It obviously has full EQ so you can tune to your preference- ShootingStills

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend
The Arya Stealth Magnet edition is now one of easiest to drive Planar headphones out there. Easier than sundara. Maybe the ananda is easier with higher sensitivity. But you can drive the Arya from any portable device more or less. Not saying that is the ‘best’ solution. But a smaller portable...- ShootingStills

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend
Just tried them for you. Only the second time I have ever used them. I have a pair of sundaras too. Bear in mind I have not updated my Gryphon so I am still on the -db volume reading rather than a percentage? I think that is what changed anyway. So my casual listening volume would be around-35...- ShootingStills

I see. Very strange. I have a new pair of Arya Stealths and the Gryphon and will test soon. They are definitely the stealth variety? Did you buy new?- ShootingStills

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend
So you use the edition on the 4.4mm output? And the Arya 3.5mm do you think? Switch the cables over. It will make a vast difference in terms of power yes. Ps- You are using the outputs on the volume dial side right? The other side (with the source USB inputs) are much lower power I think...- ShootingStills

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend
That doesn’t sound right to me. The Arya at 32 ohm and the gryphon on balanced outputs 1w or near that. The XS are 18 ohm and lower sensitivity too so should be harder to drive- ShootingStills

Does anyone know the Output power of the Gryphon at 16 ohms? Via balanced? The iFi support just pushes you to a calculator and that doesnt give power numbers just estimated decibels. Which I am not sure on.- ShootingStills

EarMen Colibri
Can anyone confirm if the Colibri really does output 500+ MW of power at 16 ohms? One review suggested it was more like 100mw. Cheers guys- ShootingStills

Battery Powered DAC and Amp Recommendations
Hi guys, Is there something that is smaller than the iFi Gryphon that has a 4.4mm 'powerful' output that will easily drive things like the Aeon Noire's? 13 Ohm 94db? I use an iPhone mainly so the Dongle DACS just will not cut it. I returned the iFi Go Bar as it actually cut out when turning up...- ShootingStills

I second this, I have the Aeon Noire which have 13ohm vs 18 of the Edition impedance and the same 92db sensitivity so they will be fine- ShootingStills

Thanks Dargin. The headphone amp is a great little benefit for sure. I am definitely returning the SMSL SU9n that is for sure. I have no confidence in its long term reliability. How do you think this compares to something like the SMSL I am getting rid of, or the Topping DX7 or D90SE? I am...- ShootingStills

Wasn't sure if I would get cast out onto the streets for asking about HiFi here :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Awesome thank you. Right, I understand what you mean. Hopefully its not a problem in that case. Do you guys think this would work well as a home HiFi DAC? This is the predominant use case for me. I will use as a headphone amp too but not that often.- ShootingStills

So the soldering thing wasn't an issue as such, but more of an unknown? As in, has anyone reported issues that correlated with the hand soldered stuff? If not I will ignore it as a potential problem, assuming the German co knows more than me about it.- ShootingStills

Crikey ok. I have no idea if it would be one of those or not. Is there a serial range that this affected? I may opt for the iFi Neo instead as there's a bundle version available at a very reduced price currently. And I will pretty much only be using this as a home HiFi DAC rather than a...- ShootingStills

IEM Recommendation - Detail mostly, Imaging and Soundstage Second
Ill admit they are quite hefty yes. I noticed them in my ears and I didn't on the Timeless of FH3 I had for a short time... That said I will give them a good week and see if I adjust. I think maybe I was barking up the wrong tree looking for a very neutral low bass, 'all about the details' IEM...- ShootingStills

Umm. So I did something impulsive and not patient as I mentioned. I bought the Monarch MK II's. They came yesterday. I need to try some different tips to get the right fit and also compare against the Timeless too. I chatted to a really helpful guy about these vs the Helios, and went for these...- ShootingStills

Is there anything inherently risky about a case? i.e. heat built up? I'd quite like one just to lessen the impact when I occasionally drop my headphones onto it :beerchug:- ShootingStills
