    Earbuds Round-Up

Ok so I’ve jumped in and ordered 3 sets to give a go: Dunu Alpha 3, NiceHCK B70, and Lun Sheng Aeolian Bells. Thanks for everyone that’s given their 2 cents and helped, I’ll be dropping impressions and thoughts as and when I receive stuff.

I see yeah looks to be coming out to a nice price tomorrow, I’ll certainly bear that in mind since the shell is tad different to the others. Great call!

    Earbuds Round-Up

I did a mini test and it seems I’ll be good for most anything, though I guess we’ll see once I get some in my ears! Thanks again. Yeah I’ve been aware of them for a while but never managed to get there, I’m in Daegu. Hopefully soon I can go and have a solid afternoons peruse! In other exciting...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Thank you so much for the detailed help. Once I’m home from work I’ll see if I can find a coin or three to determine size compatibility. Interesting, I’ll have a little search of these to see what’s up.

Yesss so helpful thank you. Writing it all down so that I’ve got all this knowledge to hand when I need it. Thanks so much. I must say, the community in this thread is particularly welcoming and kind.

    Earbuds Round-Up

Wow thanks so much for the welcome!! Very much appreciate it. Haha I’m as much Korean as if David Beckham decided to move to Seoul, that is, I am but a Brit abroad. Nevertheless thank you for the fabulous welcome! Yes, from what you and others have said I think getting and trying a variety of...

    Earbuds Round-Up

A good question. For me I mean fatiguing not in the sense that I get actual discomfort so much as I get worn down mentally by something like sibilance distracting from my listening. Like a persistent mosquito at night leading to a poor nights sleep. I’m not sure if that makes sense aha, it does...

    Earbuds Round-Up

By fatiguing, for me it’s the bite or sibilance in the mid to upper treble that gets to me. Actually, it’s not that I can’t listen to it so much as it draws me out of the music as i usually find it distracting more than uncomfortable. Yeah i can use Aliexpress, I live in South Korea...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Ok I see so I need to get down the ear shape first probably, that makes sense. Thanks for those extra recommendations, it might make sense for me to grab a couple slightly less expensive models and listen/feel them for a while to see what’s up. Many thanks for your insight. Thanks for another...

    Earbuds Round-Up

I’ll quote myself for budget and sources and stuff: Sound signature wise I tend to appreciate clarity without fatigue. That is I’m not after big bass or hyper warmth, but prefer anything from warm-neutral to neutral-bright, so long as it’s not raking my eardrums out. In terms of shells I have...

    Earbuds Round-Up

Budget to begin with is probably up to about 400 dollars, but cheaper is fine also. Sources are Astell and Kern SR25 and Shanling H7, the latter being the one I use most nowadays.

    Earbuds Round-Up

Hello there! I’m new to the thread as to be honest I've been iem, headphone, and 2 channel centric and have not considered earbuds since the early 2000s, when I was wearing pink jelly JVCs with my iPod, drying off after surfing…good times, good times. Anyway, I recently remember seeing...

    Shanling H7 - High-End Portable DAC/AMP/Player, Featuring new AKM AK4499EX Flagship DAC

That’s exactly it. Feels like the H7 gives everything I throw at it the gravitas of a distinguished professor. No sudden outbursts during lectures or spiky mood swings, but all the information, wisdom, and inspiration you could ever need.

    Shanling H7 - High-End Portable DAC/AMP/Player, Featuring new AKM AK4499EX Flagship DAC

Just got my H7 today! Listening to it through FD5s and I don’t know who mentioned it before but it’s a really good pairing. Feels like it just gently rounds off the sometimes problematic treble area and gives enough oomph to get the driver really speaking. I’ve never heard them sound as good.

Shanling H5 - Portable DAC/AMP/Player, AKM AK4493S DACs and sweet warm tuning

Cheers guys much appreciated. Went for the H7 in the end, got it arriving tomorrow I believe. Very exciting times!

Shanling H5 - Portable DAC/AMP/Player, AKM AK4493S DACs and sweet warm tuning

Hello all, how does the H5 do driving something like a Senn 660s on the balanced outputs? Would it have enough juice do you reckon?? Thanks in advance

I posted a comment below but seems to have gone by the wayside so I’ll ask again here! How do you think this would do with classical music?? It seems like it’d be spot on

    The discovery thread!

Very interesting! Yeah I play a lot of classical music alongside listening, my main instrument nowadays being bassoon. So I’ve had loads of experience in orchestras, chamber music etc. which is often why my most critical ear is for when I’m listening to classical. So it’s great to get some...

Discovery thread newbie here wondering if anyone is a big classical music listener and if so what mid-fi price range iems have been enjoyable for you?? Currently on the war path figuring what to go for next…

I should also say that AME seems to be reasonably popular here as they regularly pop up on second hand sites.

Lurker here (I just don't have experience with a lot of the gear you guys get to try out!), but I DO live in South Korea and could be of use here, potentially aha. Korean websites are often a bit rubbish (especially in their English versions) and don't always show the most up to date...

Great reviews. I am a mostly classical music listener and these iems sound as though they’d fit the bill, are they a good fit for classical music??

    Shanling H7 - High-End Portable DAC/AMP/Player, Featuring new AKM AK4499EX Flagship DAC

I appreciate the advice! My thoughts were to get hold of the H7 and use it with what I already have for a little while before jumping into getting another IEM, so given your advice I think that is the way to go. I will try to be active in my impressions once I have ordered and received it!

No that makes sense, thank you for checking it out for me! Sounds as though I'd probably prefer the Volt in this situation. I really appreciate your taking the time to respond to me, thanks again!
