Best HP under $200 for movie watching.
HFI-780 hands down. The Audio-Technicas don't do bass nearly as good. Besides -- the HFi's are designed specifically for movies/DVDs/videogames- Phraxos

Help: ATH-ANC7 Replacement Cable
Does anyone know where I can find a replacement cable for the ATH-ANC7? The original one is not working anymore (and the problem is definitely in the cable - wires are showing where it connects to the plug). I don't want to have to get an expensive (but nice) recable... btw it is detachable...- Phraxos

Some (More) STAX Questions
I'm considering getting an electrostatic rig to supplement the Darths but have a few questions that need answering first: • Will a Stax bought in Japan (100V) have any problem working in the US (120V)? If so, will a simple transformer do the job? (ANSWERED) • Will the SRM-300 amp power the...- Phraxos

Another limited edition A900
For some reason there seems to be a little disdain for the "Limited" models of the A900, but I'm personally baffled as to why - the innards of these cans are very different, and very much more hi-fi. Both the ATH-A900LTD and the A900Ti have their own unique drivers, developed specifically for...- Phraxos

Starting from Scratch
Headphones + 0404 USB. It's a D.A.C. with an internal amp - a source and amp in one. When you upgrade, get a dedicated amp and then just use it as a source. Cheap (search on froogle.com, the cheapest are almost at 150) and very good for the money.- Phraxos

Since I have a crapload of homework I'm trying to avoid, here you go: The first and most important component is the headphone. It has the biggest impact on overall SQ and should almost always be your first buy when building a new rig. The exception to that is when you start to get into the...- Phraxos

Solid Open Choices: Sennheiser HD595, Goldring DR150, Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 Solid Closed Choices: Ultrasone HFI-700, Audio-Technica ATH-A900, Beyerdynamic DT-770 One of the above combined with a decent budget amp should be quite nice. If you don't mind going amp-less on TV and iPod...- Phraxos

I agree with the others here that judging from your tastes and amp, the HD595 would be a safe bet. It's also ridiculously good value for the money. However, I think you may enjoy the Ultrasones even more. I owned the open PL2500 for a while, and it had really impressive, tight, extended bass...- Phraxos

Which headphones to get???
Audio-Technicas in general aren't particularly bass-heavy, though there seem to be exceptions (L3000). On top of that the AD700s are open, which are as a rule less bass-heavy than closed cans - I think to enjoy rap and some kinds of rock you'd be better off getting the DR150's (known for good...- Phraxos

Which headphones to get???
All three that you are considering are solid options - however if you like rock, then I'd recommend picking up a secondhand Grado SR225 on the forums. They are considered the quintessential rock can around here, and go used for around $150. Also I should mention the ATH-AD700 isn't so suited...- Phraxos
