Yeah I don’t like appealing to “historical significance” when defending The Beatles. Their music stands on its own for me.- ApertureSilence

I for one love the Wilson remasters, especially for Jethro Tull. Giles also does a fine job, but maybe strays too far from the originals sometime. Whoever recently remastered those Red/Blue Beatles CDs should be fired into the sun, though.- ApertureSilence

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
So I haven't heard the CA-1a, but I've had an SR-1a for a while and I do think it is essentially too "level" in the treble area. The positive of that is that it does feel more like a speaker response and it's very easy to EQ. I tend to apply a very, very mild treble dip to the SR-1a that...- ApertureSilence

Final Audio D7000
No need for sorry. If anything, I’m grateful that you’ve finally pushed me to reach out to Final Audio about servicing my D7000. They say it is the first D7000 they’ve heard of exhibiting this issue, and it sounds like they’re going to do a full driver replacement. I’ll keep you all updated...- ApertureSilence

Final Audio D7000
I have tested the tracks and alas I must report I can get the driver to rattle on both of them. Beyoncé holds up at normal volumes (80db or less), but I can get a bit of rattle at high volumes. However the Hans Zimmer track rattles severely even at lower volumes, and honestly, I don't dare...- ApertureSilence

I mean, he does say it's for people who "like to read." I enjoy his reviews when I'm in the right (drug-induced) mindset, but I'll fully admit I've just been scanning it for pertinent info myself.- ApertureSilence

I'm blind-buying Immanis over Mangna because I'm a soundstage-head above all else, and I love the SR1b. Nothing really to do with cost.- ApertureSilence

Wow! I read your impressions earlier in the thread and they didn't seems as hyperbolic as "crap in comparison." I'm in regular touch with Danny these days, so maybe I'll just wait for whatever he comes up with. I really would love to hear his "single speaker with no crossover that beats all...- ApertureSilence

Man, I'm jealous. I'm just hoping for a delivery estimate after Munich. I don't think I'll have a chance to audition it since I skipped CanJam NY this year. Ordered it blind after the Heidelberg hype, so at least I got in early.- ApertureSilence

Yeah, I have the Spring 3 KTE with the optional built-in pre-amp. It does help to squeeze some extra volume out of headphones like the Susvara or Tungsten. I believe that at 93 clicks, it's the same output level as the May, so it can go a tad higher. I've seen some reviews complain that the...- ApertureSilence

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
I don't think either of us are obsessed with the numbers. It's just a way to discuss headroom since there were some confusing remarks about that. Sound quality is a different matter entirely. This is the one major reason I haven't upgraded from my Spring 3 to a May yet. I don't want to also...- ApertureSilence

Heh, you're right. I forgot about the two extra steps because I practically never go that high - I turn up my pre-amp instead. Yeah no kidding. I'd never go up to -5 on a modern pop recording, but I also listen to a ton of orchestral music, and that's where I usually have to do it. I wish the...- ApertureSilence

Final Audio D7000
The Caldera to me has more of a sense of being there. It feels more organic and real to me, with more coherence to the way the instruments are presented - especially drums. I feel on the D7000, the bass is more separated from the rest of the frequencies, and quite a bit more prominent. D7000’s...- ApertureSilence

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
Thanks for the clarification. To me, -5 means I've got another 15 steps of headroom, so that's perfectly fine for me. It's funny, for me on the Bliss I'm running most headphones somewhere between -10 and 0, regardless of their supposedly big differences in drivability. Diana MR is supposed to...- ApertureSilence

I've got to admit, this really perplexed me. Could you go into a bit more detail on what you mean here? I've found the Bliss drives the SR1b just fine, and the Immanis is supposed to need only a third of that power. How could it possibly not achieve a satisfactory volume? If anything, I was...- ApertureSilence
