What I can remember it had to do with the USB chipset which was less qualitative than later versions.

Has anybody compared the AES versus the USB connection of the Onyx? I can remember I've ever read about initial problems with the USB module??

I came along this classified . The seller says there's a switch inside the Onyx DAC to adjust the voltage. Can somebody tell me more about that (hopefully with a picture)?

Yeah it looks like there's 'only' an extra attenuator/potentiometer, but I doubt you can add this without any 'extra's to an Onyx PCB...

When I used to play with a RPI streamer I did many listening sessions with different software. My top 3 list: - Runeaudio (modified with dynobot script for even better sound) - Moodeaudio (can also be modified with a script like dynobit did for Rune) - Picore player (LMS)

The DAC3 modules where also a jump forward into more depth of sound and wouldn't say it was marginal (but that also depends on the rest of the audio chain).
