Avantone : Pro Planar
Very nice, you'll probably be surprised by them. About pads, probably the best you can get is the Acoustic Research AR-H1 Faux Leather Earpads which are very similar in shape to the original (these pads can be obtained for fairly cheap on places like aliexpress. You will need Velcro to attach...- Retro Plus

I personally use a Topping L30ii, but i found they could easily be powered to a perfectly enjoyable listening level with a much weaker amplifier (such as the one found in the Focusrite 2i2). Something like the Topping L30ii would be more than enough to power them to the point where you could...- Retro Plus

Seems interesting, but i'm a bit confused by their marketing. They mentioned that they reduced the weight further but if you look at the weight for the planar and then look at the planar ii's weight you'll see that they are the same at ".48kg; 1 Lbs", so i don't know if that's just a mistake or...- Retro Plus

It's funny you should mention ASMR specifically, i tried some ASMR stuff like with crumpling paper, binural stuff (like the virtual barber shop) and the sense of space is so accurate with these headphones. There were a few times where i jumped because the audio reproduction was just that...- Retro Plus

Nice description, they do indeed take EQ well. That's something that i love about these headphones, it feels like EQ works twice as well with them because they can handle it.- Retro Plus

Avantone : Pro Planar
Hello, i have the answer to two of your questions. For new pads i believe you could contact avantone and see if they would ship them to you as they do make replacements, that is one option Another option is to get "Acoustic Research AR-H1 Earpads" which are the perfect shape for the avantones...- Retro Plus

That's great to hear. A lot of those headphones you listed are much more expensive than the Avantones, so it's fascinating to hear that you enjoy the avantones more. One thing i am curious about is how these compare to the Audeze LCD 2's since people seem to report similar characteristics with...- Retro Plus

The planars have decently deep earpads, but the foam compresses a lot so you may feel your ears contacting the interior. Hotspots? Yes, there is a fat hotspot on the band, once you notice it it's really annoying. You'll probably need to get extra padding for it for maximum comfort- Retro Plus

It's a mock-up of what closed back planars with walnut covers would look like, a 3D render.- Retro Plus

They leak sound heavily because they're fully open back, and planars project the sound on both sides (earcup and outwards)- Retro Plus

So i've been playing around with some EQ, really trying to dial in some good settings for casual listening and i think i've come up with a really good setting. It makes the bass a little punchier, more satisfying than raw. The treble is also subtly increased a little, with these settings the...- Retro Plus

Yeah i've been using some EQ and i've found on many songs that dropping the lower mids and upper mids by about 5db each gives me more of the tonality that i'm used to, probably because my last headphones were more V shaped in their sound signature.- Retro Plus

Avantone : Pro Planar
Hi i'm new to the hi-fi hobby in general, but i've just bought these Avantone Planars for a very good price (£250) and have just received them today. My first impressions are that they're a little strange sounding coming from headphones that are far from flat, but it's likely just a matter of...- Retro Plus
