Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks for posting this. The Zeroth Things Zeroth chapter is one of my favorites. I'm stunned that it was 5 years ago. And I appreciate your explorations of applying Jason's ideas. You may like The Element, by Ken Robinson. This idea from The Element has stuck with me: The question...

Aren't you supposed to put that in a paper bag first? :smirk:

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I originally came to the thread to read Jason's Schiit Happened posts. After I finished, I started reading the recent posts. At the time, the group was discussing fudge from Uranus, Missouri. That was 2017. I haven't left since...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

My Bifrost is celebrating its 10th birthday this month. I bought it from the first batch of black Schiit. Originally an Uber Analog with Gen 2 USB, I upgraded to Multibit and Gen 5 USB in 2018, then upgraded to Unison USB in 2022. My Bifrost has been in continuous use for the past 10 years...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I grew up in Waukegan, one city south of Zion. Proud home of Jack Benny, Ray Bradbury, and fine jazz drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith, among others. When I think of Zion, I think of the Dunes Theater where you could catch a movie for a buck (saw Star Wars there in 1977), the roller rink, the...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

One piece of research suggests that delegating most or all of the secondary vehicle controls (radio, climate, and others) to a touch screen borders on malpractice. To me, the most fascinating part of the research results is the "Residual Costs" subsection which shows (Fig. 6) that your driving...

Nice article about Rachael and Vilray in the March Stereophile. A big thank you to @Paladin79 for introducing me to Rachael Price's remarkable voice.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Is there room on the Schiit Sine Wave for some engineering pedantry? I'll go ahead anyway. :smirk: @Jason Stoddard, the Rekkr FAQ states, "A 95 dB efficient speaker will be 10x as loud as an 85dB efficient speaker for the same power input." This is not the case. The 95 dB speaker requires...

My preferred approach is to collect customer usage data, apply some simple statistics (typically with a splash of dangerous extrapolation), and develop a performance stress test plan that I can stand up and justify to management. So far, it's been working for more than a decade. :fingers_crossed:

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." A Tale of Two Schiities* Congratulations Jason, Mike, and the Schiits for navigating the mayhem in 2022 and sticking the landing. I'm grateful that Schiit Audio exists, and I vigorously applaud whatever steps you take to ensure the...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

While I'm waiting for my Unison USB board for my 2013-vintage Bifrost (the first run of black Schiit), I'll throw in a few soundtracks I haven't seen mentioned. The Magnificent Seven - Elmer Bernstein The Incredibles - Michael Giacchino A Map of the World - Pat Metheny West Side Story - Leonard...

Certain albums I play will cause her to linger in the room when she's listening with me. It would have to be one of those. I'd have to choose... So Familiar - Steve Martin & Edie Brickell, key track: "I Have You"

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

A few years back, a co-worker lent me an iPhone dongle he bought from a Kickstarter campaign. The dongle software allowed you to calibrate the EQ in the dongle to your ears by playing a series of tones across the frequency band. You adjusted the level of each tone so that all of the tones across...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Back when I was a pup, just starting out in hardware development, red boards at my company meant that the board contained static-sensitive parts. Apparently green boards could be handled with reckless abandon. A few years later when I was testing one of my boards, I could change the value of...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The recent discussion of acoustic transformer hum amongst the Schittizens led to an interesting journey of discovery. When I bought my Aegir late last year, I bought it fully aware that the Aegir had some acoustic transformer hum. There's a big honkin' transformer at the front of the amp. It's...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Assuming that people are equally likely to be born on any day of the month, and not counting anyone born in 1900, ( 12 13ths in a year ) / ( 365.25 days per year ) = 3.3% Sorry. :nerd:

I don't trust my memory anymore, but the vapors of my mind tell me that the headphones were in the Expo Hall in 2019. The Expo Hall seemed extra empty because they moved the headphones to their own space.

Thanks for pointing that out. I missed that. 9215 is in the Expo Hall. It's not really a place to have a good listen. So there may be some Schiit to look at, but not to experience. Have a good day at the show.
