I am confused. How can the SR1a / b have such drastically different FR, according to Mitch's graphs, above 3K? The diferences between the SR1 a/b (different grill, a little silver wire) seem too mild to produce such a dramatically difference? What am I missing?

It was a Sony DAP, I think. The ambient noise was problematic for all headphones, but only with the CA-1a/WA33 did I have trouble getting enough volume.

At CanJam SoCal, The Source AV table had the CA-1a with the WA33. On certain tracks, I had the volume maxed out and still wasn't getting enough. Has anyone else had this problem with this or similar combos?

I listen to a lot of classical music running iTunes -> Bifrost 2 -> JotR -> SR1a and it rarely if ever clips. I can hear the clipping on your recording above, but when when I play the Manze Eroica (or the Ozawa Emperor) via iTunes, it does not clip. Have you asked Danny?
