    The Stax thread (New)

Hey Stax thread,   Been out of the loop for ages, just been enjoying life listening to my Lambda Pros!   But the day has come -- the left driver cable seems to have developed a slight intermittence. I noticed only recently when I slouched in my chair lazily and dropped my head. I love...

    The Stax thread (New)

Hello Stax thread! I'm thinking of putting together a small Stax travel package. So 2 questions for you guys. First, I need a DAC. If you have any experience with matching the SRM-252 to a comparable DAC please see my thread here. Post even if what you have to say is not what I want to...

(USB) DAC for transportable Stax rig

I'm looking for a small DAC for a bedroom / long-term travel / "cottage" build. It will be used with a Stax SRM-252A and a SR-003, or possibly a SR-202. It should (in order of whats most important)... 1. <$500 US / remotely available to me here in Canada 2. Have a USB connection as well as...

My rig sounds better at night... Is there anything that could explain this? All I can come up with is... Power. I'm completely uneducated on the issues concerning power, but I can only assume less usage during the night could lead to cleaner power for me. Subjectively it might also be...

    The Stax thread (New)

I've upgraded from a 252A to a T1S and I still get a small amount of humming if I leave my Lambda Pros plugged in and unused for a while. It doesn't bother me, and seems to go away if I use it for a couple minutes. I also have a grounding nub I can tie something on to if I wanted to, I guess...

I always thought it was the pad glue, but once I replaced them the crackling never went away. This would only happen with a seal if I adjusted and put pressure on it. I would push it against my head and it would begin to crackle -- sometimes it would take a while for it to finish and snap at the...

    Grado comfort?

I'm sure they'll hurt. If you persist it will be months before you get used to it. But.... in the end I believe the air around your ears and lightness make them more comfortable than Stax or any super comfortable circumaural design.

Seems like you all have access to SRM-T1s. I don't know if I want to upgrade any time soon, but is there anything readily available that is comparable for 600-1000 American? I also have a certain desire for an amp without many nicks or scratches if I'm spending that much. In this respect I'd...

The good news is you aren't going deaf. The bad news is you have a brain tumor.

    The Stax thread (New)

I don't think it's the headphones, if I touch the amp or ground it with RCA cables (from the RCA loop out) the humming goes away. I found a post here that explains a good way to get rid of the humming on this amp, but I don't exactly feel comfortable making something that goes near anything high...

Should have asked here to begin with... What is the best way to ground my SRM-252? I get a hum that I never noticed with the SR-202. I only have speaker wire, should I try attaching it to the back? I can only think to ground it to my large metal table. Any thoughts? Btw, after a long journey...

    Grounding Issue

Narrowed it down to the SRM-252A (unplugged everything). None of these components except for the VDA2 are actively grounded. Not using a standard power supply for the SRM-252A either, but I doubt that is the reason. Nowhere to attach a ground wire to on it, I'm going to check the manual (but...

    Grounding Issue

Hey everyone, I currently run a CIAudio VDA2/VAC1 from a E-MU 0404 USB through optical, which then feeds my SRM-252A stax amp and my KICAS prototype amp. It is all plugged in to a cheap power bar. Just today there is a noticeable humming using my new Lambda Pros, and I can get rid of it by...

    Mississauga/North Toronto meet

Sign me up, my Stax may already be at Oriel's but if they're already home I probably won't bring them with Signature's on the list. I may have my computer with small mp3/flac collection and an 0404USB as a ASIO transport? Anyone think this is a good idea besides me? I also have SR80s and a D2, I...

Looking for best headphones under $100

Maybe you guys just misunderstood what I said? I mean to say that generating too much noise in any environment is most likely caused by the lack of out-to-in isolation. Thus, respect yourself before you respect others Don't blast your ears listening at a level that generates that much of a...

Looking for best headphones under $100

leakage outward is one of the most over-rated issues. It's leakage inward that should be the issue. If you need to blast music just to drown out the outside noise you're just doing it wrong.

I have my closed cans, I have my open cans, I have my amp....now what?

It's good to try a variety of cans, over time you'll probably get the opportunity at head-fi meets or by listening, reading and selecting specific upgrades you might want to try... but it's only been a few weeks. I suggest you listen to your setup, enjoy it, listen to what you like about it and...
