Hi, I recently bought r8 and am now offered an opportunity to buy a 2nd hand Holo Spring 2. I'm also using HQP to upstream and convert to DSD before send the signal to DAC. Do you know if audio gd r8 also have separate r2r chips for DSD playback, or to your knowledge it is only with Holo's DAC?

Th900 is 100% better than D7000 in almost every aspect...if your system is good enough to drive it to its best. Otherwise, D7k is better to listen and easier to drive. :)

That's correct. But I haven't tested if Windows 10 universal drive will work in async mode. I had tried the latest ASIO v1.09 along with its beta drive, so far so good.

For r8, there's something says 2021 version has some pins of USB/HDMI plugs swapped/modified. Also based on previous discussion found in Head Fi, lots of people complained using not swapped version to have left/right "swapped".

When I use Jriver, I constantly have "weird" sound when playing DSD via ASIO (bitstream DSD). When Wasapi with DoP is used, no weird sound but it only supports up to DSD126. I don't think it's an issue of buffer, tried that before and it doesn't work. So far, only foobar 2000 with DSD: ASIO...

Wasapi unfortunately only supports up to DSD 128 and cannot play DSD256 or higher, and it must be via DoP. ASIO is the only way to play any DSD file that's 256 or 512.

Yeah, foobar is opensoure and hence can be customised like using old version plug. Other media players such as Jriver cannot revert back to older version plugs.

For r8, not MKII, it's no way to tell what input signal is transmitted and played on the dac. The screen doesn't display any bit information. The only way to tell is via foobar volume control. I've also tested with another dac which fortunately has input signal indicator and it shows DSD.

A quick update, I've managed to play DSD256 using foobar via native DSD (not DoP). But you have to use scad plug version 0.9.2 or earlier. Anything newer will only work up until dsd128. I'm using DSD: ASIO and can prove it's sending dsd signal, not PCM, since the foobar cannot adjust volume of...
