The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.
Yes sounds amazing with headphones like the MDR-Z1R. So you find the unit isn't quiet enough!? As for me the unit's has a very black background as I was using one of my test track - Mining for gold by Cowboy Junkies from the album The Trinity Session - to see if Resolute measures up. FYI, the...- jjss

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.
Yes indeed a good and powerful amp would definitely able to reproduce what a Sony DAP is capable of. The following set up is a testimony of this with this settings: WM1Z at high gain vol at 45, the Resolute at low gain driving the IER-Z1R. No need to turn DAP to 120 which would be way too...- jjss

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.
I would say the following setup falls in both "watercoolers"! As the Resolute has no battery and is A/C powered, and the upstream can be a DAP or a desktop DAC. I use it with the SIN power cable and the Resolute's background is just dead silent.- jjss

Portable-style DAC using AC power?
You can look at products from CEntrance and they have the HiFi-M8 (a DAC) and the Ampersand (a headphone power amp), and both devices can be on battery and on AC power if so needed. I have both units ..- jjss

Comment by 'jjss' in item 'HAA - Resolute by Thrax Audio Power Headphone Amplifier'
My latest trio: IER-Z1R (w/i BSEP for Z1R) / NW-WM1 / HAA Resolute I was listening to the track "Hello by Friends of Carlotta" and it was just just amazing, black black background, excellent lower mid, bass and sub bass extensions, musical, emotional, an experience at an entirely diff level...- jjss

SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2
Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought those Kojo virtual ground box is there to eliminate / reduce EMI and RFI, not the kind of usual power supply grounding, in the case of DAP scenario. Call me insane (or may be I'm really so) as I have tried using 5 Crystal E-G in series connected to WM1Z or...- jjss

Well it’s not really out yet. So everyone has to wait to get a real taste only after it’s released. Btw do you know the Resolute? Edit. I’m open to any device that’s truly a revelation so will certainly try and find opportunity to taste the fugaku when it’s available- jjss

Sony IER-M7 Impressions Thread
@DynamicEars On second thought, why Sony has decided to put a nozzle filter in? Does it mean that the original sound coming out of the 4 BA drivers is somewhat "problematic"?? On the Sony webpage...- jjss

Sony IER-M7 Impressions Thread
Hello, good morning / evening, The M7 has 4 BA drivers whilst the M9 has 5. Does anyone know if the 5th one in M9 is the super tweeter driver that is absent in the M7, or the use / allocation of these 5 and 4 drivers are entirely diff?? Thanks .. Also I haven't read all the relevant posts on...- jjss

64 Audio | VAC Pro - maintenance tool for all in-ear devices
I will probably buy this VAC Pro as some of my IEMs don't have much "protection" between the drivers and the nozzles, i.e. exposed, so being able to use a tool and a brand that I trust would be quite essential given the prices of the IEMs in my collection. Just curious, as many here are...- jjss

Recommendation for a DAC or AMP with "black" background ?
The Phonitor 2 was designed to be use in studios as another reference and check to a mix / mastering to studio monitors and the 2 does an excellent job in this regard. My experience is that a true neutral flat reproduction system will give you a truly balanced reproduction if this is what you're...- jjss

Recommendation for a DAC or AMP with "black" background ?
I have the Phonitor 2 and yes its a wonderful piece of gear and background is relatively dark enough, I use RME ADI2-Pro FS to drive it and this DAC is also very clean and transparent. The overall resultant sound is of high quality, but I think there is still room to enhance the "dark...- jjss

Recommendation for a DAC or AMP with "black" background ?
I'm not sure in my case if this is predominantly to do with masking and dominant note although these 2 do have a bearing on enhanced sound refinements as a result of a black background. Agree that good power management makes a lot of diff. I've also done "experimental" setup thats uses ground...- jjss

Recommendation for a DAC or AMP with "black" background ?
Verbalizing sound is always a challenge! So when you say "dark/silent/black", are you also referring to some kind of sound purity/cleanliness, so much so that you could hear much more of the refinement of sound/music reproduced? If you are talking about such a perceptual listening experience...- jjss

SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2
You're welcome. The SQ of the M2 is "best" amongst the 3 DAPs (707/1Z/M2) out of the box but if portability and convenience is a must 707 would be the choice (assuming sticking to Sony of course), after all carrying around a $3.5K+ DAP outdoor does require extra care and attention ..- jjss

SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2
TBH, the SQ diff between 1Z and M2 to a degree depends on the sources, the genres, and the IEMs/HPs used. Say, the diff is much more noticeable when playing the "Blue-Coast-Collection-SACD Hybrid" album (CD tracks ripped to FLAC files) vs playing Diana Krall's Wallflower (Deluxe Edition) [48kHz...- jjss

SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2
I have the 707, WM1Z and WM1ZM2. Whilst the 707 in itself is already a good DAP:- small enough size/weight for true portability and a reasonably high level of SQ, but when it comes to pure sound quality the 1Z and the M2 are definitely better - soundstage/imaging, resolution and dynamics. I'm a...- jjss

The Official 64 Audio Thread | apex & tia Technologies
I have the u18t for quite a while now. To my ears its a fairly "technical" IEM meaning that it's more neutral, nuanced, good imaging and honest to the source. If your source has bass and good bass it will give you that. To some it may not be a very 'rich" sounding IEM and if that's the kind of...- jjss

Review Tago Studio T3-01
The T3-01 has been with me for around 2+ years and it is genuinely an unique sounding headphone, unlike the Grados that the T3-01's sound is not Grado-bright but with some kind of weight (vs thin sounding as in some mid-to-treble emphasised headphones) that makes it un-fatiguing to listen to for...- jjss
