Would these be a good upgrade from the FiiO FH9, or should I consider the Grand Maestro instead?

Definitely interested in this, though I'm admittedly a sucker for dual DDs. I still have fond memories of my VJJB-V1S from many years ago. If CCA can give us decent bass quality without a wonky tuning or QC issues, I'll pick one up.

    Strong Shure SE215 replacement cable

Glad you found something that works, those look pretty solid! I picked up the Null Brevity 2pin which feels similar to the Campfire Super Smoky Litz though I can't speak to durability yet. I also grabbed a Hart Audio CST-PC-1-NK which is slightly stiffer due to insulation but might last longer.

    Strong Shure SE215 replacement cable

Hi there! I've gone through too many MMCX cables to count, and I hope my misadventures help you choose a good one. You're talking about memory wire, which was one of the things I hated about the stock SE215 cable. Most third-party cables I've come across have molded earhooks instead of memory...

The FH9 is my go-to these days. They liked to escape my ears until I switched to a lighter cable and Dunu S&S tips but are just correct in so many other ways. I listened to them side by side with the IE600 and my first thought was "....that's it?"

I was very pleasantly surprised by how DD-like the bass can be on these, coupled with the clarity. I wish the shells were a bit more compact; they're not heavy but I definitely feel the size after about half an hour, regardless of eartips. Also, the stock cable is lacking in flexibility and bass...

I wanted to like these more than I did. The bass was great but I could never get a good fit since the shells sat too far away from my ear, regardless of tips.

Two Big News! FiiO's New Dynamic Driver IEMs JD7 Is Coming! With BTR5, FH9, M11 Plus and M17 Joining the AliExpress 11·11 Sale!

You might be better served by pairing SpinFit W1 tips or SednaEarfit Crystal tips; both of those are grippier and should make up for the shorter nozzle.

My JD7 arrived today, and I was very pleasantly surprised, especially with the sale price. Compared to my previous budget pick (TRN TA1 Max), it's less harsh in the highs, comfier, and has a better stock cable/overall build.

@Redcarmoose, absolutely. These sound like a baby FD5 and fit better! Also, Spinfit W1s paired perfectly with them.

I picked up a pair and really enjoyed them. They're less 'polite' and more V-shaped than my DT1990 but the bass might hit harder, better than the other mid-fi & budget closed-backs I've heard. My only gripe is the thin stock pads. After trying a few sets, I settled on the Brainwavz XL Micro...
