It's possible I misunderstood what I was told during my visit at Audeze, but my understanding was that it has to do with the chipset they chose, its placement, and how Penrose does its onboard audio mixing, which is different than what steelseries is using and doing.

I just want to be clear that on my headset turning sidetone off does reduce the static/hiss if the microphone is turned on at the physical switch of the headset. If the microphone switch is off, however, toggling sidetone on does not increase the static/hiss; it remains at the reduced level.

Maybe you should consider that you have accidentally enabled AGC even at the range between 1db and 3db. It will be obvious that the sound gets lower to anyone who replicates my testing. Unless, that's an outlier too?

Even after restarting my PC and plugging in and unplugging the wireless dongle, neither the volume slider in the taskbar nor the "levels" tab in the sound control panel "speaker properties" for the headset have any effect on the volume level. I haven't tried phone anything as I have an iPhone...

I just tested it, and toggling sidetone off/on while having the mic muted at the physical switch makes no difference to the hiss in either state. So don't get your hopes up.
