    Android phones and USB DACs

I've switched to Qobuz. I was wondering why my sound quality seemed to be lacking, and tried Qobuz instead of Tidal because someone posted here earlier that they think "it just sounds better". Turns out they are right, even just at their "CD quality" setting, which is the same as I was using in...

    Android phones and USB DACs

I am totally in-love with my DAC-amp setup which is a Schiit Modi Multibit and Magni Heresy. It's the only setup which has yielded truly crisp and transparent high frequencies. So it would have to be able to connect to the Schitt Modi, and run Tidal. Here's why I use Tidal. It gives me...

New HD560S, and I'm freaking out.

So the clearest-sounding headphones for me (without exceeding $400) remain the Sony V600, now that I have found parametric EQ settings which correct for the over-emphasized low end. Tried the AT-R70x and found that they have way too much emphasis in the upper low-range. I had to abandon the...

Got the HD 650.. did I bought the wrong headphones?

There HE400i's are atrocious; I can't take them. So muddy. I went back to my tried-and-true Sony V600's and I can hear so much detail that the Hifimans were covering up. Anxiously await the Audio-Technicas.

Got the HD 650.. did I bought the wrong headphones?

OK I'm actually enjoying the HE400i's quite a bit now. I'm using Wavelet (EQ app), and have the "bass tuner" set to the maximum cutoff frequency of 270 Hz, the "post-gain" to -5 dB, and in the EQ I have 300 Hz and 600 attenuated 4 dB. The highs are coming through pretty nicely but sound a little...

Got the HD 650.. did I bought the wrong headphones?

OK I'm no longer thrilled with the HE400's. Someone on a different thread suggested Audio-Technica ATH-R70X; I have ordered them. They are apparently discontinued though I found them on headphones.com.

New HD560S, and I'm freaking out.

Thank you, I want to give them a try as I'm not totally thrilled with the treble on the HE400i's anymore. They seem to be discontinued, but found them on headphones.com for $349.99.

New HD560S, and I'm freaking out.

After finally realizing what others on here have tried to point out to me is indeed true, that the Sony V600's have too much emphasis in the low end, I went on a bit of a spree to purchase and audition several different sets based on other posts here. One post was a reply to me and suggested I...

    Android phones and USB DACs

As I'm about to post in a different thread, after trying several different sets, including the aforementioned HD-650 and Sony MDR-7506 (which turned out to be utter crap with an atrocious emphasis near 2k), I settled on, and in-fact have found no other comparison, with the HifiMan HE400I planars...

New HD560S, and I'm freaking out.

You are correct: after doing a bit of reading, I realized that lossy compression like Ogg does not preserve bit depth, and it might not even preserve sample rate (I'm unclear on that one). As for Schiit Multibit DACs, I was speaking from research I had done based on their "marketing claims."...

Got the HD 650.. did I bought the wrong headphones?

OK after a bit of research I canceled my order for the K271 and ordered the K701 instead. So I'm asking whether one of these (K701 or HE-400I) might offer the brighter, crisper sound I am seeking, or if I'd be better off with something else (so far I'm highly anticipating the K701's based on...

Got the HD 650.. did I bought the wrong headphones?

Yes I am replying to myself LOL, but would like to add this question: since it seems I am wanting a brighter, crisper sound, and I find a heavy low-end presence (including low-mids) to be fatiguing over-time, does anyone have a suggestion for headphones in the price-range of the HD-650? Or will...

Got the HD 650.. did I bought the wrong headphones?

I agree, as I have tried listening to the HD-650's for hours (driven by a Schiit Magni Heresy), thinking they would be much brighter than my Sony V600's. They are more detailed, but still have a frustratingly heavy low-end which includes low-mids. I can't take these for long periods either. I...

Sony MDR-V600 - Thoughts and General Info???

I got tired of the mid-range sounding unnatural in my beloved V600's, and gave the Sennheiser HD-650's I had ordered a try (driven by Schiit Magni Heresy). At first they took some getting used to. Now that I have, I'm not going back to the V600's. The sound of these is neutral and I'm hearing...

Sony MDR-V6 vs. MDR-7506. There is a difference in sound. *** Pictures too ***

Yes I agree they need substantial eq. I could not fix they 7506s with eq, they are too horribly colored. It depends on whether you're using a parametric eq (like Equalizer APO), where you can set any frequency and bandwidth. Here's what I wrote in another thread:

Sony MDR-V600 - Thoughts and General Info???

Scratch a lot of what I said in a recent post (in this thread). I bought a new pair of 7506s thinking they would be an improvement over my V600s. They are not; the upper-mids are emphasized beyond belief. I found that what I needed was different eq settings for my V600s, which are now sounding...

    Anyone here likes mono?

Windows Sonic for Headphones (found in the device properties) is OK, but lately now that my system is sounding so good, I have found that stereo is hard to take while mono really rocks. I'm loving it.

Sony MDR-V6 vs. MDR-7506. There is a difference in sound. *** Pictures too ***

I just got a brand-new pair of these (7506), and they are definitely not flat. The post that I am replying to cites the midrange having a "harsh sibilant coloration", but I find that when people use vague descriptive-sounding words, they are substituting for lack-of-perception of distorted...

    Android phones and USB DACs

OK, turns out you're right. As my system has gotten much better, I have come to realize that a significant factor in my struggle with quick-onset listening fatigue is that the V600 in fact has way too much of a middle-lower end (lows, mid-lows, and even into middle-mids). I have ordered two new...
