the hardest part about testing non-measurable differences is that this is a very subjective hobby. everyone’s ears and brains are different. my interpretation of shrill and bright might the same as your crisp and clear.

In my experience, glare reduction has come from making sure power to all components is optimized as well as network noise reduction.

an update on the USB Isolation card: you can email Nicolae/Rockna and if you are outside the EU they will send you an invoice to get the card delivered.

Innuos Zenith SE -> USB -> Wavelight I’ve only used USB with the wavelight and the Aqua LaVoce S3 before that and it’s been great. I used Roon before Innuos’ internal player was released and now exclusively use it as it sounds better IMO

on another note, Nicolae replied to an email stating the usb module is available, however the site to order wasn’t playing nice with PayPal, I’ve asked my dealer to inquire about getting one for me

I have not compared outputs but as a preamp, I’ve had no issues with the Wavelight. With the last update the hybrid volume vs analog volume is more noticeable for the better.

I have not, but I did update through Roon with my server directly connected to the Wavelight. I just made sure all DSP and upsamping was disabled.

You stated you have a nucleus, have you tried running the update connecting it via USB and playing the file through Roon?

I have not heard the Wavedream or Wavedream + Net combo, however the DACs that I would gravitate towards at this point (that I've heard) would be the MSB Discrete + Dual Power Supply/Powerbase, Bricasti M12 or Aries Cerat Helene. Of course, nothing is definite because I haven't heard any of...

in addition the the previously mentioned differences with the new Wavelight firmware, I have noticed a greater difference between analog and hybrid volume modes.

I have updated the unit through USB from my server every time; that's the only connection ive used aside from the one time when the unit bricked and I had to use the MPLAB PICKit unit directly connected to the circuitboard.

some of the previous firmware updates had a list of features and fixes but who knows, maybe they will publish a list down the road.

from what I remember, some DACs a while ago would chop bits as a means of reducing output volume

initial impression was smoother overall sound and thickness in a good way, but it’s hard to tell as I just put in new Ethernet cables and they are settling as well

I totally agree regarding Roon. I my experience it sounds best when the core is separated from the endpoint, but compared to native server players it is lackluster. However, the user experience is really hard to beat .
