    The Stax Thread III

The BK is ever so slightly warmer than the stock 009, most likely due to slightly different pads, though I'm not sure if those are the same pads as the 009s or if it's some other set. It's not a transformative difference by any means but it does smooth out some of the perceived treble fatigue...

I preferred the 009BK out of my SR-X+ vs the KGSSHV so I can believe that. Lighter weight the better for me, though after owning and using the Audeze LCD-2 Closed-Back for a couple years, I think my neck muscles have acclimated to anything short of putting a dumbbell on my head :joy:

Thanks I appreciate the reply. That's quite interesting as the overly diffuse soundstage of the X9k, the fatigue of the 009, and the warmth of the 007 are actually my biggest issues with each...lol. I think I would still take the 009 transparency overall but I will continue to seek out a 4070...

Do you have any thoughts on how the 4070 sounds compared to the 009, 007, or X9k? Other than the SR-Omega and 007mk1, the 4070 is the only major Stax release I have not listened to extensively at this point.

Does anyone happen to know how the performance/power of the DIY SR-X+ circuit compares to a stock 717? Really glad to see this post, I thought the same with the Mk2, it surprisingly brings a different flavor to the table instead of being strictly just a less refined Mk3. Have not heart the Mk1.

Hello, up for sale is a SRM-252S I acquired recently in a purchase order from Mjolnir Audio. I was going to use this unit for a portable use case that I ended...

Selling my favorite of the Omegas (have not heard SR-Omega yet though!), the 009BK. Aside from cosmetically being quite sharp looking, the BK boast some slight modifications over their stock brethren that warm the lower mids just a tad, a subtle but great addition to the classic 009 sound...

Most of the Stax amps are actually quite excellent, they are just overpriced for the raw performance they provide vs third-party. But at second-hand prices they become very attractive propositions. You mentioned the 353X, I have seen those go as low as $550, that is a no-brainer at a price like...

I am gifting my brother a 507 but don't have a spare amp for him. If you are looking to offload your budget Stat amp then let me know. 252s, 313, SRM-1/Mk2, EHA5 etc. Particular interest in 252s, as I am also looking for one of those for myself, so I can take one of my Lambda with me on...

Yea if I buy the DIY T2 I don't think it will fit in my backpack lol :joy:

What is the CanJam bag policy? I was thinking of bringing a backpack in case I buy anything.

If anyone wants $50 for their HE-1 slot then let me know. I completely missed the signup and am local to NYC so this is by far my best option to hear it. One of only three headphones that I might consider upgrading to from the 009BK, other two being SR-Omega and Shangri-La Sr.

Does anyone here have impressions of the 4070 and can compare it specifically to the 007 and 009? I have noticed the Sig and especially the Nova Signature are rapidly becoming two of the hardest Lambda models to find. I will probably pick up the next good condition LNS I see just for that...

Comment by 'tjlindle' on listing 'Stax Lambda (Signature, 404LE)'

Possibly the three absolute best Lambda models, a very worthy search indeed :)

    The Stax Thread III

If I've never heard a track before, I hear it for the first time and there are details that I don't pick up on due to FR-induced auditory masking, I personally consider that "less resolving" even if technically everything is there. That is highly subjective but honestly, I think that at this...

    The Stax Thread III

IMO there were a lot of contextual complaints about the 009 that are no longer as relevant today: -Channel imbalance QC disaster which is no longer of concern -Price vs. 007, which is also no longer a concern, in fact some of the 007mk1s on here are priced higher than 009's -It is 110% a...

Awesome thanks - Aeras has been on my shortlist to demo, I need to see if there'll be one at CanJam NYC. I'm probably going to bring my 009BK and see how many amps I can hear it out of if possible. Until recently I was running a regular 009 with a KGSSHV and I was very happy with the technical...

    The Stax Thread III

As a 009 fan, did you feel it also scaled very well like the 007 or does it mostly cap at power levels lower than the T2? Barring me swallowing a huge money pill and picking up an original Omega, it is looking like the 009 is going to end up my Stax endgame, now I'm just trying to figure out...

    The Stax Thread III

Oh wow I missed that new model news, too bad it isn't a Lambda though :frowning2: I was going to say this is the longest they've gone between Lambda refreshes, but I just checked and there was an 11-year gap between the x0x and the x07 lines... The 507 came in, stock tonality is...a lot...

    The Stax Thread III

L300/L500 for sure are more detail forward but I think the better spatial layering on the L700 gives it the edge for me. L300 reveals everything in the track but I find that, especially for stuff like classic jazz, spatial resonances and reverb tails get lost in the more flattened presentation...

    The Stax Thread III

Agreed and that quality of the X9000 is probably my favorite thing about it, it is insane how present and intimate vocals can be while the entire image is so diffuse. In my experience, other very diffuse headphones - HD800, SR1A, K1000, Susvara (not as diffuse as the others) etc - they can throw...
  23. T

    The Stax Thread III

All just my own opinions of course, the Susvara: -resolution is about equivalent to L300/L500 and less than L700 and 007 -imaging is better than L300/L500 and about equivalent to L700 and 007 -layering (if you consider that separate from imaging) is better than all the Lambda and about...

I 100% agree that that post is exactly the problem, but I also want to point out that the post has no likes at all and it was immediately quoted and repudiated by other members in posts that all had a good number of likes. The people doing this in bad faith/ignorance are a minority. That goes...
