I've the S17 and a Hifiman HE1000v2 SE (2023 model) and it works perfectly well with an aftermarket cable from arachne.audio (4 PIN XLR). Good match with a Totaldac R2R DAC. Next try will be with a Denafrips Ares 12th-1 DAC (R2R too) and a Meze Emyprean II vs Dan Clark Expanse.

There is no new firmware if I understand correctly. But a new version of the MacOS application which now can update the Penrose firmware.

I was surprised of the big downgrade part :) I thought about a defective unit ... but it seems you found a good settings !

EDIT : on PS5 when I use the ps store section with the background music, I can hear the noise floor ... no need to focus too much to hear it. Will try with the Sony platinum to check. I’ve played to Spiderman remaster and the sound is so good with the Penrose !!! So much dynamic and details...

With the Penrose for PS5 and the latest firmware 0.1.5 and sidetone to off, it still have noise floor that can be heard when you have no sound or during dialog or call sequence in game. My Sony platinum (wireless 2.4Ghz too) is dead silent. Same thing for my Meze audio 99 classics connected to...

I think it’s because sharing USB port between the host and the VM is not the most stable thing in the world ... Audeze may wants to prevent bricked headset during firmware update. I’ve so much trouble to use a usb to serial adapter within a windows VM on Linux or Mac OS hosts ...

The Penrose is only stereo, so it doesn‘t matter if you set DTS or Dolby Digital with the Penrose. It’s used for soundbar, HDMI AVR or (e)ARC with your TV. I’ve set to Dolby Digital to use eARC with my TV.

For information, COD Cold War is not great with 3D Audio enabled. Spider Man Miles Morales or Astro bot sound better. I’ve got the Penrose for PS5 and i’m pretty happy with it. I’ve played twice with it during 2h gaming session. The confort is OK. Not as good as a Sony Platinum or Meze Audio 99...
