4th Annual Wicked Schiit Meet Impression Thread

Was great to see everyone who was still there at the tail end of the event. Only got to hear a couple headphones, but I got some neat pictures of some of the things there that I’ll attach to this post. Looking forward to the next event, hopefully I’ll be able to make it there earlier :) The...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Yes! I have the felt tuning rings. They came with my set when I received them and I have them installed in my pair at all times. My OEM hybrid pads (the white faced pads) are still like-new. They were likely stored in a climate controlled environment and had next to zero use, judging by the...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Thank you! Yes- the Brainwaves pads were pretty uninspiring in this application, but they weren't as bad for me as the original OEM Hybrid pads. Speaking of which, the hybrid pads I have here are like-new, except of course the pleather lining on the front of the pad falling off, and leaving the...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Hey all, I've posted a few times on this thread in the past. Very cool to see just how much attention the 540 Golds get, especially when seeing how many posts this thread has! I have a few things to add to the thread, which may or may not have already been specified here before. With over 250...

    3rd Annual Wicked Schiit Meet - New England - Jan 14th, 2023

Super fun event, pleasure meeting all of you and putting faces to names. It was great listening to many headphones that have been on my ”to hear” bucket list for a while now, as well as hearing some DIY / Homemade headphones that people brought. Thanks again to Schiit for hosting this event, that...

    3rd Annual Wicked Schiit Meet - New England - Jan 14th, 2023

Should attendees that bring equipment also bring extension cords, power strips, tables, etc? Just skimmed through the thread and didn’t see any mention.

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I’ve seen many 540 Golds with velour pads — the person I bought mine from was the original owner and claimed he had never done so much as pull the pads off. I know about 10 people personally who have 540 Golds and every one of them agrees the velour pads sound and feel the best. But to each his own…

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

While I agree with many of the points he made about the 540 Golds, I strongly disagree about the soundstage. He thinks they stage about as well as the HD6x0 series but I find it to be just the opposite. I think the stage on the 540’s is much much wider and deeper, as well as more coherent; less...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

The velour pads on the pair that I sent for review are the original pads that came on the headphones from the factory. There are two versions of pads. The hybrids which are cloth and pleather, and then the velour pads. Velour is largely agreed to be the better of the original pads that came on...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I've had my 600 ohm 540 Reference Golds for about a year now, and have been loving every minute of ownership. I bought them spontaneously, before I knew of the cult following they have. I'm glad I did because the prices are still rising. I sent mine out to DMS about a month ago for review, which...

    The Stax SRM-001 mod thread

I have been enjoying my 001 Mk2's since getting them about 3 months ago, but feel they are lacking top end and tend to be a little sibilant when pushed. I was reading somewhere that I would be able to power the 001 Mk2's off of a pro bias energizer by changing the stock cable out for one off of...
