Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

AptX HD and Adaptive sounded much improved over AAC for me. Never tried the original AptX flavor. For me if I pay for the tech and convenience of Bluetooth headphones, I would never wire it up for any long term listening. There are many better wired options available if you're looking for pure...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

Bluetooth over AptX sounds great, much better than AAC out of iPhone. It worked well for me over AptX HD via my Bluesound Node-- noticeable difference. I would skip the USB-C cable because that defeats the purpose of wireless headphones. The Node would integrate well with your system as well...

Crazy price alert. Anyone still on the fence about these, B&W are having a sale on refurbished models of black and tan for $350: https://www.bowerswilkins.com/en-us/product/over-ear-headphones/px8/301000-refurbished.html?dwvar_301000-refurbished_color=Black Absolute steal…you would be making...

Where is the price/performance "sweet spot" in your opinion?

I would say based on how deep you are into the hobby and/or how good your ears are, diminishing returns can be experienced anywhere from $500 to $1500.

    Bowers&Wilkins new flagship the P9!

A lot of headphone audiophile preferences skew heavily towards brighter, pronounced treble and neutral bass, none of which the P9 have (thank goodness, in fact). Some people talk about too much bass coloring the sound, but same can be said for a too excited treble signature and flat bass...

For those who have had the APM since release, exactly what kind of changes to the sound signature have been made now with firmware updates?

PX8 has a short chime when connecting or disconnecting. What kind of "announcer" is on the XM4?

    Bowers&Wilkins new flagship the P9!

Would be nice, but I think that ship has sailed. Would like to see real lossless wireless in the next half decade, though. In the meantime, a decent pre-owned market and some replacement pads should suffice..

    Bowers&Wilkins new flagship the P9!

I've gotten as cheap as the USB-C headphone dongle from Apple into an iPad Pro and am satisfied with it. For a semi-portable setup for around the house and lounging, it's all I need and the P9 don't need any extra power at all. I've wondered about Focal, but I am too used to the warmth and the...

    Bowers&Wilkins new flagship the P9!

Worst ones were the PX... Most uncomfortable headphones I've ever tried. Not sure what was worse, the comfort or the sound quality for those. :triportsad:

    Bowers&Wilkins new flagship the P9!

Cinematic is a good take on the signature. For movies especially it gives you the sense of being in a well-tuned small theater. Its capabilities for bass really shine here. Regarding the comfort, it's a mixed bag. I've never found their older models to be high on comfort, especially compared to...

The battery thing was an issue that appeared for a small number of users and was fixed in firmware 2.0 already.

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

Stuff happens, but sounds more like user error to me. There are many more people who don’t have issues than do. You just tend to hear about issues on forums, but doesn’t mean it’s widespread. I’ve had a bunch of communications with B&W over the years and have had no problems with their...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

Never had a problem with the construction of the PX8. Completely solid with zero creaks and no issues with the leather. No product is perfect across thousands of samples, but some people are rougher with their stuff too I’m sure.

    Bowers&Wilkins new flagship the P9!

Been listening to my P9 exclusively the last few weeks and been realizing again just how good these are after being distracted the last few years by wireless headphones. These are just so inviting and rich sounding. They offer this huge sound signature that bests the PX8 by a pretty long ways...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

These two statements are contradictory to me. If you're saying the DAC cannot be bypassed and the signal is digital regardless of the cable, then 1. How can you possibly "color" the sound with a DAC and/or 3.5mm cable? 2. How can you say the USB-C cable is best (better than the 3.5mm cable)?

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

Hmm, we all hear things differently I suppose. I have not tested again with the USB-C since buying the headphones over a year ago, but that was my experience after 15 minutes with it. If the "color" coming from my MBP M1 Pro via 3.5mm is making it sound that much more detailed than bluetooth to...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

If your type of music is from the mid 20th century and prior also, you're lucky that any decent pair of headphones should do justice to the music :) I don't notice any appreciable difference between bluetooth and USB-C, especially on AptX. Via the 3.5mm cable, yes there is a slight difference...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

FWIW, no scientific testing, but I do know that when I consistently shut off the headphones after use, I see slightly better battery life than when I tend to forget. Not dramatic, but I do think there is a difference and can go longer between charges.

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

The PX8 is a solid choice for a first audiophile headphone, as long as your priorities are for wireless headphones. Should be a good step up from in-ears. PX8 doesn't have LDAC. I'd bet you wouldn't be able to reliably hear the difference between LDAC and AptX, but as always, listen with your...

Your memory serves you right-- that is exactly what I hear as well. What do you find is the biggest difference between the Focal and B&W house sound signatures? It seems you are able to get on with both of them and enjoy both equally? From what I read of others' experiences, the Bathys and...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

Similar results myself, but been noticing a decrease in battery life after using the Px8 solely on AptX lately. Not sure if it's just me, but also need to do some un-scientific tests myself. Could also be because I've been using them extra hours that I hadn't before. The P9 will always be...
